Which Diesel Motor?
ok heres the poll that yall wanted. If i dont have the engine that you would like to see, click OTHER and leave a post on what you would put in it.
For thoes of you who haven't read my other post, i will inform you on what this will go in. In the next few years im wanting to start on another project (me and my dad built the 57 chevy, pics in my gallery, and we just finished it a coupla years ago. I like working on vehicles so i thought id start another project. After i get some money saved up of course. I plan on this truck being my work truck. I also plan on being a heavy diesel mechaic and work on Cat dozers etc. etc. So this truck will need to be road worthy. I dont plan on holding much back on the drive train. Being as how i will be driving it alot and i hate being broke down on the side of the road. I also will want a HOT motor. twins (depending on what engine i stick in it) chips injectors, the whole deal. What would yall like to see under the hood? Also, i havent decided on a cab yet. Any suggestions? and whats the highest gear raito that is avaliable in military axles? Gimmie yalls feedback. Thanks

thats the truth. Thats like some people like the carbed gassers better than the fuel injections. But if you have a fuel injection hooked up right, it beats the socks off of a carberator.

The 8.3L has me thinking...Can't you turn the pump up on them suckers? we had one in a FL70 and it was a mean little motor, It did'nt have a gov. so we just shifted @ redline with the 8sp. she sounded good with the straight pipe underneath it.

now were talkin. turnin up a big rig motor. Can you put twins on em? the only thing wrong with em is the weight. What kinda frame would it take to handle that? would deuce and a half axles be enough to do i need to move up to 5 ton axles?

Wow... I voted for 8.3 liter and I figured that I'd be the only one, but that seems to be the most popular.
Some dude had an 8.3 liter in an F-350 on eBay a while back... It was beautiful.
As for tuning them up, that's way out of my league... All I can say is that somebody somewhere knows how to get massive power out of the engine.

I voted for the 8.3 CTD.....most 12v 8.3's have the same P7100 pumps on them that the 2nd gen 12v's had.......this pump really lets you go wild and can be bombed with most of the same inexpensive parts that the 5.9 can. 500 hp and 1500 ft/lbs should be easily and economically acheivable with insane off-idle torque. Yeah, the motor is heavy - around the 1300 lb range, but so what?.....You are building a monster.....to me, the 8.3 only seems appropriate for a project like this. There is just that cool factor of having the 8.3.......My 2nd choice would be a 12v 5.9.......the 12v because of the ease of the swap and the ability to economically make big power gains.

id love to put a big rig cummins in it. 1. for the torque 2. for the sound and 3. so i could put a real jake brake on it. we got a 290 cummins in our big dump truck, but i was wanting round a 450 or so. I believe they all have the same block, and around the same size. so whats the 8.3 cummins hp ratings? and is it possible to put TWINS on em?

I think you will find ratings for the 8.3 from 200 hp up to 330 hp.....there are many CPL #'s for this motor depending on the application and year......if you get a P7100 pumped 8.3, don't even pay attention to the rating.....they are so far detuned and can be easily changed and tuned to a much higher power level. And yes, I see no reason why you couldn't have a 8.3 twin......now THAT would be cooler than cool!!
FWIW, the 8.3 is still considered a medium duty motor and isn't in a lot of really heavy duty applications........it is still small in comparison to a typical class 8 big rig engine......I'm not sure if there is an engine brake available for the 8.3?
