General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Get a few thousand miles on a Detroit and you will not be able to pour the oil in it fast enough!

Not to mention the high rpm's that the Detroits run at would drive you nuts on a trip. :'(

PISTOL

Correction on spelling Muskrat, our here it's correct to spell it Furd or Ferd but never an "O".

Re:Diesel Jeep Liberty for 2004!!!

Out west, where they do a lot of rock crawling, the Cummins 4 banger is catching on. Guys are putting them in Jeep CJs and Wranglers. I watched one in Farmington, NM, at the 2001 United Four Wheel Drive Associations' convention during the trail ride. It did rather well. But, sounded like a John Deere. Cracked us up.he was never short on power. Although, it appeared common sense may not have been one of his stronge points. But, it was all in total fun.
Jeep tried a miserable Renault Diesel in the very early XJ Cherokees. It was a joke!
Now, a Cummins in an XJ would be wild!!
Now, I must have missed something. Detroit Diesel has belonged to General Motors group as long as I can remember. When did this change occur. AS a matter of fact, the hospital I use to work at has a 16V71N Detroit as the prime mover for its 350KW generator. It was general motors. In fact, the Alternator section was a Delco, which that part is no longer made.
It is a great machine. They still have it. When it is called on to run, you hear two sounds. The starter smacking the flywheel and it running a solid 1800 rpms (makes 60Hz) You do not even hear it ramp up. Bang you ar there.
Yes, it leaked oil as well. The Fire Pump there is a 3 cyclinder Detroit. Not, that S.O. B. will rip your ear drums right out of your head. The 16V71N is way louder than our Cummins. The 3 banger is way worse. At 2,200 RPMs, it is nasty!!
Oh, the old Detroit is a 2 stroker!
See ya! ???
