Diesel Engine Question

Ok, I am wondering what the dif is between a truck pump and an ag/industrial pump is. I have asked several shops and they give me a look like either I am retarded, or they have no idea. Am I missing something, or are they different since one is going to run at a constant RPM(more likely) and a truck changes alot.

I have the same problem. Your question is not clear. If you are talking about pumps, what kind? Are you talking about engines?

If your question concerns engines: Automotive vs Industrial or even Marine, there are significant differences. Although they may share the same block the differences can begin at that point. This is why it is not a good idea to pick up an industrial or marine engine for conversion to an automotive application. So many parts may have to be exchanged that it is simply not worth it.

Emmisions are not really a concern where I live.
I am talking about injectoin pumps
Mainly I am talking about the 6bt. I am just curious if you put like say, a tractor engine in a pckup, how would it act. Like reving up when you push on the pedal. It seems that it would work, but I am not a diesel expert so I don't know.
This is purely bench racing, but this is suposed to be the place for that.
Thanks

The pumps are calibrated differently-. First of all for the different output. Then it's the governor. Some marine diesels will be governed in a way that you have an rpm selector. As soon as rpm drops they'll fuel more. You can usually calibrate these pumps to pickup pumps- On marine and ag specs they use different turbos too, spool isn't as much of an issue as WOT efficiency. So you might end up with a lag monster.
The 6BT also has different pistons for different applications, headgaskets, injectors etc.
Basically it can be done but you might have to invest a boatload of casht to get it right...
