DF-8 Diesel?

Hey, I filled up our shops 2.5 ton International today at the government pumps on base, and the diesel pump said DF-8 Diesel. Usually it's DL-2 (which I know is diesel 2). Is this DF-8 a blend? Kerosene? JP-8? Just curious... -Steve

Cool, thanks. Thats what I was thinking, but I didn't want to assume, cause you know what happens when you assume .
Moose & J -Yeah, I am out on Elmendorf. Haven't chatted with you guys yet. I live here in base housing. Quite a few of us running around SouthCentral AK. We'll have to get together. Curt (AKDSLDOG) already has a chapter set up here, we just all got to get together. Maybe in the spring, I am not sure I want to take my beloved CTD off base now that theres a bit of snow on the ground. You Alaskans don't slow down on the Glenn hwy for anything, including moose! I guess I shouldn't say "you Alaskans" since I am now a legal resident -Steve

PS- The work truck ran pretty good on the DF-8. Isn't JP-8 a little hard on the pump? Is there much lubricity to JP-8? I'll stick to the winter blend & D-2 for my own rig, but I don't have a choice of what to put in Uncle Sugars truck.

I wouldn't use it in my truck, it's been known to take out a few injection pumps according to some of my Trans buddies.

We should all hook up for lunch next week, how's Wednesday at the Applebee's on Muldon by Fred Meyer? I might have to pull AK Ram away from the choke and puke for one day but he'll come.

When the military decided to go to a single fuel, JP-8 got picked. Performance wisw, it's about 10-15% less than DF-2. It's a great solvent, cleans well, and leaves no oily film (read no lubrication qualities). While great for gas turbines, it's death to rotary type pumps. You should have a book around concerning alternate fuels. It has reccomendations on oils and types to mix with different fuels. If I come across one that's on a pdf file, I'll zing it to ya.
