converting 24volt Chevy 6.2 to 12 volt

I just bought an 86 k30, military m1008 with a 6.2. I know these trucks are 24 volt under the hood, and 12 volt to the rest, but cant really find much info about converting the whole system to 12volt. I dont want to be stranded needing a jump start somewhere, etc. Anyone have experience converting one?

Congratulations on your M1008, they are a good rugged truck. I have the blazer version.

Most people don't do the conversion to 12v because it isn't really necessary. I think if you look closely, the truck is 12v, the 24v is there to run the military stuff that needs 24v.

That is part of the black out lighting. It is basically a tail light bulb in a housing that reflects the light down in front of the truck. Not gonna give you much light for driving more that 10 mph or so
