a cheap trick for everyone
a cheap trick for everyone
i saw this on another site. its a real god idea so i figured i would share it with yall. For a cheap anti theft device for your tailgate, take a stainless steel hoseclamp and tighten it around the hinge on your tailgate on the side that lifts off. This way anybody that wants to swipe yout gate needs to have a screwdriver to do it. This also reduces the chance of the tailgate falling off if you drive around with it down.

Even the junk yars around here get $400+ for em.
Plus, they are easily damaged and easily stolen.

It is fairly popular around here. More with Chevy's. Probably a little less in the last few years though. I did install a lock on mine for the very reason. I need to put one on our 97 still.

Yes, it's sad, scum will steal anything, just because they can. Don't usually need it, just the thrill of taking it. Sometimes you'll find the stolen item used to vandalize someone elses property.

I rarely lock my truck or take the keys out of the ignition. If it comes to people stealing tailgates in my parts it will be time to move.
My friend in the sticks found a 2nd gen white tailgate in the middle of the road near his farm he set it up against the fence, no takers. He brought it to town and I put it in the local buy&sell. I asked $400 and in two months no calls, finally sold it for $250 canadian it had one scratch on it.

Scrap steel is up right now. They are steeling sewer and manhole covers here. Javahoeo
