I can tell you the bore/stroke, and all info you need as far as specs go(I have an old Cat book) but nowhere does it mention weight. I'm guessing it is gonna be around what a 7.3 powerchoke would be....or real close.

I tried Cat.com, actually OHE.Cat.com and got nothing. Usually they have a whole library of tech sheets, but only on their inline engines so far.

My father-in-law has one and he said it weighs less than a Cummins. But that Cat is freakin HUGE! I think he said it had a little over 300hp. Thanks for checking guys.

Less than what Cummins? I would be very surprised if a 3208 weighed less than a B series 5.9.

stolen from a google search from the website ocean navigator online. 1685 lbs

"The general specifications of three engines of similar power rating, one turbocharged, one normally aspirated, and one turbocharged and aftercooled, illustrate the wide range of powerplant choices appropriate for a small- to medium-size trawler yacht. The Caterpillar 3304B, a four-cylinder, 425-cubic inch turbocharged engine, weighs 1,710 pounds and measures (L x H x W) 55 inches x 45 inches x 38 inches. Operating at its very conservative C rating (Caterpillar's designation for engines used in ferries, harbor tugs, and displacement yachts) at 2,200 rpm, it delivers 165 hp at a fuel rate of 9.6 gph. A second Caterpillar engine, the normally aspirated model 3208, a 636-cubic inch V-8 engine, weighs 1,685 pounds and measures 57 inches x 40 inches x 40 inches. Operating at its A rating (Caterpillar's most conservative rating, usually applied to engines used in the most demanding commercial service) it produces 150 hp at 2,400 rpm, consuming 7.7 gph. The Yanmar 4LH DTE, a four-cylinder, 211 cubic inch, turbocharged/aftercooled engine, weighs 838 pounds, measures 42 inches x 29 inches x 27 inches and delivers 154 hp at 3,200 rpm, the manufacturer's specified continuous operating speed, while consuming 8.7 gph."

Two big cast heads and that Cat block, that doesn't seem that unreal. I bet those heads weight over 100lbs each dry..

4.5" bore 5" stroke. Heavy in at 1800lbs. I've overhauled them before.
Best I can tell is that they do best at a marine spec 375hp, for longevity Vs power. Its not a wet sleeve block so when the cylinders are done..... block is done. overheating and cracking heads is a big problem with these.

this is marine spec but same physicals as an OTH engine

I'd agree its a solid piece of crap..... the front cover alone weighs at least 100lbs.

one particular 250hp we overhauled for a gravel truck comes to mind. Keep in mine we had an in house Clayton waterdyno, all engines got broken in on our dyno before they got put into service. So this guy goes to work haulin dirt, and come back the following week complaints useing water. So ya we pull the heads and 7 of 8 holes were cracked. I don't know what that guy did to it but he killed that poor 3208 in less than 7 days.
