My friend just bought a truck in the US and had to take it to the dealership to get a recall fixed. The guys in the service dept. said that Chrysler Canada will not honor the warranty on a US purchased vehicle brought into Canada. They said you would have to take it back to the US for any warranty work. That is the story we were told, but you might ask your local dealer yourself to see if you get the same info. They also did not like the idea of putting programmers on either so something is definitely wrong with them.

And welcome here.

John

Importing a new truck from the US is not easy. Customs and registries have a hay day making you jump through hoops. If you have a customs officer to consult it would be well worth the investment to sit down with them.

warranty will not be honored- better call customs- lots of paperwork and hassle!- probably will not be worth it.

I think bringing in a truck that is a year or two older is easier on the paper work side, the fact that the warranty is a pain to get(having to go stateside) I think is worth it for the price you can aquire a truck for.

A question for any Canadians that have imported a US vehicle.

I understand that the US Customs requires the documentation for the vehicle that is being exported 72 hours before the vehicle is exported. Can copies of the original documents be faxed to meet the 72 hour requirement and then the originals be presented at the time of export?

Talking importing a truck into canada

as a guy who just bought a 2004.5 ctd in houston tx and drove it back to manitoba,it is pretty easy at the borders.just make sure us customs has a faxed copy of the title at least 72 hrs. before you arrive.i figured i saved about 10,000.00 on my truck.i had it in to the dealership to get the high idle enabled and was also told that i have no warranty here in canada!!! the truck only has 40,000 miles on it.they said they will carry out any recalls but no warranty work, what a load of cr&&!! i was told as many as 10,000 vehicles a month are being imported to canada.maybe the dealers will stop ripping us off.if anyone needs some more info drop me a p.m. and i will help you out.
