Yeah, it just goes to show you, those Dr. Z commercials are creating a lot of rumors and confusion.

Ford does not own any portion of Cummins Inc.. Currently, the Dodge/Cummins and the Ford/Navistar agreements are set for the next several years, and no announcements have been published that we are aware of, by either company, to change engine suppliers. We would not expect GM to use Cummins diesels in their pickups, since they are affiliated with Detroit Diesel, which is one of Cummins major competitors.
Ford does NOT own any portion of Cummins. In 1994, Ford purchased 10% share of Cummins stock and currently uses Cummins B5.9 and C8.3 engines in their F-series trucks, larger than F550. Ford uses the Navistar Power Stroke engine in their pickups, that are F550 or under.
However, as of January 1, 1997, Cummins purchased back all of the original shares from Ford, therefore Ford no longer has any direct financial connections with Cummins. However, Ford still purchases some Cummins engines and are considered a very good Cummins customer.

Yeah, unfortunately there are more goofy phord owners in my area that are always looking for any opportunity to jab you with some stupid comment like the mercedes engine in our truck. I'm out numbered and in need of some ammunition
The commercials are not helping my situation
I work in the construction trades, so some days it's like eighth grade all over again.

When Ford needs a REAL diesel engine for their heavy duty trucks they go with the Cummins. Makes sense, doesn't it? Next time some Ford guy takes a jab at you, explain it just like that and they will shut the heck up 99.9% of the time. For the other .1% you'll just have to show them your tail lights!!

Good name selection, I still have my old '86 250r
..............Jim
Yeah. Those PSD's don't usually smoke like our CTD's do.
I've still got my 250r, as well as one that belonged to a friend of mine since 1988. I just couldn't let a stranger buy a trike that has been in our "group" since we were a bunch of punk kids tearing up the neighborhood on it.

Oooops, I think this is called hi-jacking a thread, i'll shut-up now........
Good times man,......... good times

HAHA!! Yeah, apologies for hi-jacking but those were certainly good times. If I could go back I certainly would. The only motorized thing I plan on keeping longer than my CTD is my 250r.

Actually, I don't know if its true or not today but Ford used to own 14% of Cummins stock.
Why not... if I was Ford, I'd want to own Cummins too.
If I did not own a Cummins, I would have purchased a powerstroke. I don't think its anywhere near as good a engine as my Cummins, but its better than a Issuzu-max. My next truck would be this one if it came with a Cummins:
I know that'll never happen

Anyway, even after sendin my buddy that fordcummins link, he swears that, "O they'll have Mercedes motors in 2008, just you watch!" You'll come back and say, o, you were right!" -After this, I became enraged
He was tellin me that, all the big trucks now are being produced with the Mercedes diesel motor, and that they will move down the line to the Dodge Ram trucks.
And this is the cherry on top of the icing!!- He said, "Come on man, havent you seen all the Dr. Z commercials?"
