There are lots of posts here and on other forums regarding the stock hitch. The manual does say our trucks are rated for 12,500# towing capacity. What it doesn't say is the rating of the hitch. I think I found that info in/on the Dodge website or the bodybuilders stuff, can't remember, that was a year ago when I looked it up and decided to install an aftermarket bumper and hitch. You are assuming that they actually installed a hitch capable of the trucks capacity?

The rental agency had no problem renting to me as long as I had an aftermarket hitch or a g/n trailer that was rated for 12K. They would not rent to me if I had the factory hitch and planned on using it. The guy was adament about not renting to me with the factory hitch and said he had some kind of notice from his insurance company regarding the factory hitch. This just might be a hint that the hitch is not capable of the truck's capacity or something else? I'll ask him to elaborate when I am there next weekend picking up the Bobcat. I am taking my g/n trailer because it will save me some $$$'s.

Every state is different about this stuff, they all have different laws. New Mexico used to be pretty lax about a lot of this but not any more. The DOT has a lot of new laws recently, I am not as familiar as up to date as I should be with most of new stuff or changes. I learn as I go, just like this rental stuff.

Well, my chevy 3/4 ton had a class V hitch rated at 8500 lbs, I guess i'll have to call dodge or somthing because soon i'm gonna buy a used bobcat to go along with my excavator, hopefully in the 863 range, so maybe 7k# for the bobcat alone, i just want to make sure my hitch won't fall off, lol. The trailer wieghs 2k#, but I plan to upgrade to a tilt, or maybe dump trailer, so i'll be close to the 12k# range. It'd be nice to be able to two both at the same time. 6k# or so for the bobcat, 4k# for the excavator, probably 3-4k# for a sufficient trailer.... 14k should be do-able from what I see people here tow, especially after I put a 5spd in.
