brake job

Had a caliper that sprung a leak this weekend,so I took my truck into a shop this morning and told them to replace the caliper and rotor and pads. They call me and tell me its going to cost 1300 and some dollars just for the front
So I go into the shop to find out why 195 for rotors 173 for caliper 112 for pads and so much for misc. and the rest labor. I tell them them do do the one front that was bad just so I can get the heck out of there! I end up with a bill for 652.87 for one front rotor caliper and pads And never even got a kiss. I think I'm in the wrong bussiness Just had to vent a little. Thanks

That's why I prefer to do ALL my own maintenance....It's hard to find a reputable shop. Even when you do, they are still proud of their work!

I just got my truck out of the ***********, and my bill was $1012. I had the front wheel bearing assembly replaced, new axle assembly on the drivers side, and that was it. I was at the mercy of the dealer, cause I just moved to where I live, and I am not allowed to do any mechanic work at the aprtment complex, and I am 500 miles from where I used to live, so I can't just go over to a friends house. Plus the U-joint grenaded on the interstate so I had to have it towed in.

I am still sitting on the inflatable donut to ease the pain from it all. Had it happened back home, i would have dopne my own work. but o well.

You might want to put a new set of pads on the other side now or you will get some weird braking. It's never advisable to replace just one side of the brake shoes.

Where in WI are ya? I just did a brake job on my truck last month. New pads were $64, and I used to work at a auto repair shop and had him turn my rotors for $10. These rotors are thick, you really have to drive a long ways metal to metal to totally wreck them. I drove mine metal to metal for about 100 miles. Turned out fine still plenty thick. My calipers were fine, but they are easy to rebuild. Bret

I have my third set of front brake pads on now. I put the third set on at about 128,000 miles. I had to have them done at Midas, because I too, was out of town. The mechanic said that next brake job, I will need to replace the front rotors because there won't be enough to machine.
Midas brake job was 178.00.
