Bombing a diesel Liberty...

TST projects

That ought to be pretty interesting. Also, I see that TST is supposed to be on Two Guys Garage on May 1, 2, and 3. Doesn't say what they're going to install it on, but it looks like a fueling box for a common rail engine they're holding in the picture.

I looked at one last week at Jimmy Vickers Jeep, in Merritt Island, Florida. Started it. It was real quiet but the engine is covered by a plastic cover one side to the other. It vibrated pretty good.

Its an Italian Diesel. Jeep dealers never saw a diesel before. I wonder who's going to work on it. Its only a $ 1,200.00 option on the sticker. Comes with a 3:96 rear. Needs to be 3:55. It was all wheel drive with leather, heated seats, radio controls on the steering wheel like my truck, six way seats both sides, sun or moon roof, whatever, CD power the rest of it. It was the limited model. $ 30,275.00 or very close to that. It was red. I like the blue.

It was a neat little package. The fuel filter is on the drivers side and holds at least a quart. Its huge. Its incased in hoses and wires. Be fun getting to it.

They needed to put the diesel in the next larger model and my Hemi Durango would be history tomorrow morning. It would be hard to get my wife out of the Dango for the liberty. Was rated 27hwy and 21city. The Dango can't get close to that in nuetral.

Boy howdy!

I had a '98 Durango, and it couldn't hit those mileage numbers in a free fall off a cliff.

I already have a box and injectors for the Jeep when it is more popular and there is a market. Fully tested and ready to go. Timing and pressure. With more enhancements coming later in the year. Both are adding power and mileage.

Turbochargers are being worked out now. I really wanted to be ready for the Jeep when it comes out. Now that Diesel prices are soo high, I dont know how well it will sell. So far the sales are terrible.

We are either getting an 03 or newer Ram or a Jeep CRD as soon as the last payment is made on this one. If I get the jeep I will be ordering a box and a set of injectors post haste. Probably the week I get it home. Sounds like it's going to be fun little machine.

I don't think it's been marketed very much as well as the fact that it doesn't get that great of mileage. I'm kinda disappointed that this is DC's attempt to popularize diesels in the average consumer market. I think they would have been WAY smarter to introduce this CRD engine in a Wrangler.

Don what kind of power numbers are you seeing on the new liberties?

I've seen people claiming 30 mpg on the highway. That's a huge improvement over the gassers that average around 19 with the auto transmission. My neighbors 3.7 gasser auto has hit 21 on a good day on the highway it usually gets in the teens. I've seen posts from owners that are claiming 18-20 in town. 30 would be an excellent starting point since the Volkswagon Passat is only rated at 38 mpg in a 2wd car. I'm not sure what people are thinking they are going to get. It's a fairly heavy 4wd SUV with a 5000 pound towing capacity not a smart car or 5 speed Beetle. And it drives very nice due to the torque of the diesel engine as a side benefit.

If we had less than 4 youngans I would get one myself. Not quite enough room for us.

HP and TQ gained is still kinda on the down low. As soon as I release a number, someone else will claim something higher. LOL

Its on average what is gained with other engines using common rail. I concentrated on mileage not raw power.
