GENEVA–BMW AG, the world's largest premium car maker, will begin selling diesel-powered cars in the United States next year, its CEO said yesterday.

"Next year we are also going to offer our diesel vehicles in the U.S. – another step in protecting the environment," CEO Norbert Reithofer said in a speech to the Geneva Auto Show.

He said about 40 per cent of all BMWs sold last year, almost half a million vehicles, were equipped with diesel engines, which are more fuel-efficient than gasoline-fuelled cars. Diesel cars account for a minimal part of the U.S. market but are popular in Europe.]

Gee, I wonder if they won't be available in any of the New England states, NY or CA like the BlueTec Mercedes. Nevermind. I think I know that answer.

Knowing this, I think I may hold off looking around for an older 328i for autocross and track use.

They are not bringing the 3 series over as diesel, more the pity I think it would sell big time!! I know I would get one! They are bringing over X5 with diesel and the 535d (you can see a video of this if you google video 535d top gear). They will also be bringing over in 08 (at least plans are there) the 1 series.
