Even the Duramax FAQ notes that the autos have a number of problems.

Duramax 6600 FAQ

Q: Any truth to the rumors we're hearing about Allison automatic transmission failures?

A: Like most any currently produced computer controlled automatic transmission, there are lots of individual components that would disable the transmission should one of those parts fail or not function properly. So, yes, there have been a number of Allison problems reported. Most of these were due to minor issues such as fluid leaks, sticky solenoids, loose wiring connectors, and the like. However, no Allison 1000 Series 5-speed automatic has failed because of the load it was asked to pull. This transmission has proven itself to be virtually bulletproof for pulling max GCVW loads (22,000 lbs) in the hottest desert heat.

We just had a failure of our Allison tranny in our Kodiak chassis MH. We were 300 miles into our trip when the tranny stopped downshifting on hills and we got a tranny maintenance warning light. GM said DO NOT DRIVE IT so we had to have it towed 300 miles back home.
The Allison repair shop ran a diagnostic and it had a number of faults. They dropped the pan and found a very small piece of metal (about the size of half a sew needle) stuck to the solenoid causing it to short out. The flushed it and replaced the fluids and we should be good to go.
The shop said they have seen this from time to time on these transmissions. Usually it is an intermittent problem with the shifting and then goes away only to come back days or weeks later. Once they find the metal and flus

Whats your point? My uncles brand new DODGE MEgaCab didn't even make it 30 miles outside of the Dealer 20 minutes after driving off the lot. It completely shut down. Electronics went fubar. Talk about a real GEm

Maybe because I always hear how great the Cummins is but the truck wrapped around it is a turd I thought I should point out what a piece of crap our GM product is. I have had several GM trucks and this one has had the most problems. Some of the issues are comical.
