Auxilary driving lights
Auxilary driving lights
I am looking for a set of good qualty driving lights to install in a custom bumper I am making. Who has good luck with what, keep in mind I do not want to be turning them on and off each time a car passes so they need to be very similar to a headlight but with good quality light
Most driving lights don't meet those criteria, they're too bright and for use only with high beams. Hella used to sell an auxiliary low beam that was pretty good, but they quit offering them a few years ago. You might find a used or NOS pair on eBay, maybe. They were called "Hella XL."

I like my PIAA driving lights, but they will turn the interior of a car 100 yards in front of me from night into day. I use them sparingly, but they are fantastic on a dark road or interstate.

I have had the 170's and now the 240 Lightforces on my truck. I know they have been hit hard by rocks...not one indication of damage on them anywhere.
I saw a video a long time ago of one taking a hit from a 22 cal rifle.
I have a pair of PIAA 510 Ion Crystal Fog and a pair of 510 Super whites along with the Lightforce 240's. I also have the diffused, blue and amber lens' for the 240's. Plus I have the factory driving lights. I also had a pair of 1400's on the back but one fell off and the other one failed. I might put a pair of tractor lamps on the back...for those occasions when I need to remind someone they have their hi beams on
or when I need to see what I am backing into...I mean up to.
My 510 Super whites are mounted low off the bottom valance and wide. So far no road rash. I have the 510 fogs and the 240's mounted on a Desert Racing Concepts bumper bar that is mounted where the tow hooks would go.
I do need to get out to a remote area one night and align them a bit better.
Is it best to have the fogs up a bit and the driving lights lower to the road? So far that set up is giving me the best results. Any other suggestions?
One thing for sure...the blue lens on the 240's makes driving in snow...real easy. I will see what it does for rain, when we get some.
