any one in Illinois?
is any one here in Illinois or know about IL? my parents and i may end up moving to Illinois and i was wondering how strict they are on exhaust noise. that way i know what to expect when i go there with my truck.
Like the old term - "It Depends." If around Chicago or a collar county, you'll want to tone it down a bit - or at least nor run a straight 5" from the turbo back. Rest of the state, you should be find unless you find a really unhappy State Patrol.
really, i never saw the thing about the turbo in the vehicle code. ya, im not gonna be around chicago. if my dad takes the job we would be in the Quincy area. over on the 'sippi.
btw, if yall are interested i sent an email to Top about possibly starting a illinois chapter. since there currently is not one.

Yeah, down south you have nuthin to worry about. Lots of smokey diesels with straightpipes and stacks around here. Most are fords though LOL! Funny... 2 years ago when I put my stack on, mine was the ONLY one in my county... now every 4th or 5th one has a stack.
Pm sent to you.
biododge, where do the laws say that? I may need ammo if and when I get pulled over.
I saw a 1st Gen once with a ugly stack (4in stuck straight up in the air about 4 feet above cab right in the middle of the bed. ugggh), he obviously had no muffler but like me
he coulda been passing through.
Ya beat me to it, Dieselstorm. I was thinkin about starting one but got cold feet.

I am actually from the Quincy area. You should have nothing to worry bout there just a little common sense. there is a lot of gassers that think they r tough too, just a heads up. had to put a couple in there place it was fun. i am straight 4 in from the turbo to 5 in stacks and never had a problem. hope this helps, let me know if u wanna get together for a meet.

It might be good to have 2 chapters, Northern and Southren because most of us could not make the trip South near enough.
Any others in Northern Illinois want to start one?

it states, " a muffler must be on the exhaust system to prevent excessive noise and smoke. This also includes turbine wheels used in the exhaust system of a diesel engine. cutouts, bypasses, and changes to the system to increase noise are illegal." and you could also use the db method. that i need to look up thogh, i think it's something like 75-85db at 50'
it is in page 89 of the " ruels of the road" book, under the section muffler.

i am surprised any 24v could pass a db test
.i just "lost" my muffler and tail pipe 2 days ago, so until the 5" arrives I'm relying on the "turbo is a muffler thing". i just hope the 5" isn"t as loud as being strait piped. my wife will kill me for sure(if my neighbors don't get me first
).
i think it would be great if we had a northern chapter. as said before, the trip south is unlikly
