Another Ram 1500 diesel rumor

Read on Left Lane News that a Ram 1500 was spotted at Cummins with the VM Motori 630 3.0L V6 TDI. This is the same engine used in for the Grand Cherokee and the Fiat Thema (Chrysler 300). Est. 220 HP and 400 TQ.

Possibility that Cummins is doing the engine certification for the US market.

Well that makes sense to me, the 1500 is already set up for the same 8 speed that will be mated to the 3.0l in the 300 and Grand Cherokee. The diesel Jeep is going to be launched in the U.S. this fall, but I doubt the 1500 will ever get a Cummins, we will use the 3.0l which is a nice option overall, but a Cummins would be sweet.

Why do I have a feeling that Dodge will find an easy way to screw up a potentially great thing...

We shouldnt screw this up, the engine is already proven, the trans no so much....The grand Cherokee will launch this fall with the same drivetrain so by the time the 1500 is ready to roll out the bugs should be worked out.....but only time will tell.

The Lancia Thema should already be in production with this engine, 190 and a 240 HP versions.

Sorry, there you go already.

A manual is required, unless that is available, count many dieselheads out.

Well the 1/2 ton 1500 has not been offered in a manual in at least a few years so I dont think its going to hurt that much....No manual 1500s no one complained. You cant get a Ford with a manual and a diesel unless you get into a f650 or 750, so I dont think that comlaint holds much water...Sorry....Most diesel junkies wont settle for an 3.0l european diesel anyway, they will get em for their wives...

Yeah they get them for thier wives, and then drive them for thier wives too. Really it depends on the MPGs the truck can produce.

I figure diesel junkies would appreciate more diesels to be junkie about. It's about time to see small diesels being offered. It's a step in the right direction. Having driven a 3.1TD (4JG2) for a few years, would love to have a little brother for my Cummins. Maybe someday I'll buy my husband a diesel powered car to drive around. He can go get groceries in that.

I think my old man can appreciate the style in which I send him in. In the UK he rented a little TD powered vehicle. Matter of fact I think it was the Dart. He travels a lot on business so he gets to try out random vehicles. He owns an '06 Hemi Charger and yours truly implores the importance of the Cummins in the world as a whole I am very much impressed when he comes home boasting when his latest rental would garner my vehicular approval.

I swear yall. If I ca get him hooked on SCed TDed vehicled, I'd be swaggering 'round the forums like I owned the placed

I hope not, unless it's a fully decked out version like the Longhorn. Even the top of the line Ford F-150 is pushing $40k +.
