Allison AT545 trans filter

I just replaced a TC on a school bus and found when I pulled the pan to do the service that the filter was much bigger then the the kit they sent. The one they sent was about 5/8" thick and the pick up tube hole was smaller maybe 3/4". The one that came out was about 1 1/4" thick with about 1" pick up tube hole. Is this an up grade? If so anyone have a part #.
The bus is a "92" Thomas with the DT360 if that helps.

This is the first time working on an Allison.

There are 2 types of internal service filter kits we use here for the allison.....One for deep pan , the other for shallow....

Part numbers we have in stock are :-

Fleetguard TF 15002
Fleetguard TF 15026

We have our Allisons bolted to 6BT's,.... wouldn't have thought there would be any difference in the motor fitment...

BTW....What oil do you's use in the tranny..?......We used to use ATF, but were told by our UK supplier to use standard engine oil....

I would think this is the deeper pan. Thanks for the part #. What part # is for the deep pan? I was told that this trans uses Dextron.

I was unable to open the boxes to see which was which........the 002 is a small box.the 026 considerably larger.....Do you have a part # on the box with the kit you opened.?.

Just curious about the oil.........we hd many failures in our trannys.....as ours are service buses ..stop start/ 100 yard dash we call it.....upwards of 12 hours a day....Allison here in uk said we should use engine oil...so far downtime and failures has decreased somewhat...

Might be worth looking on chassis too for an external spin-on filter....from top of tranny , through filter, to oil cooler...you need to change that too if its fitted......

I will look into the Castrol.

Got the right filter today. It was an upgraded filter kit I was told.
I did change the spin on filter also.

Just got done and took it for a spin. Very satisfying working on something you have never done before and having it come together.

They come with dexron from the manufacturer, if you are not using it as a daily school bus or commuter bus then don't worry about it you will be fine. Transynd is the Allison spec for severe duty transmissions and as stated it is made by Castrol.

It's a nice feeling when you put it all together and it runs great.....especially if you havn't done it before.....

Hope those part numbers were ok....sometimes the numbers differ this side of the pond to yours..( been there--done that).....

We have no trouble running engine oil in our Allisons...( have about 25 in daily commuter buses)....around 80 or so Voith 3 & 4 speed autos...and a handful of ZF autos.....( voith & zf have to have ATF tho.)....
