Why would you run waste oil in your engine given the dirt that is in it? Or do you have to use a better than stock fuel fitration system to clean it before it hits the injectors? Or is the stock filter getting all that dirt out that is in it already, much of it wear metals and minute grit brought in past the air filter.?

And if the waste oil is not clean by the time the injectors see it won't that cause undo wear on the orifices?

UPDATE!

As of today, Wed 3/1/06, so far so good. I have 264 miles on a 1/2 of a tank of fuel, (60% highway,40%town) smoother idle, engine rattle is quieter, not as tiney sounding, truck seems very happy with the added 2-stroke oil.

Truethfully I am not not worried about the injectors. They have 240k on them. But I drain the oil into an clean drain pan then filter it into gallon jugs. Once its in the jugs it has time to settle the solids before it goes into the tank. Once in the tank you have the prefilter on the fuel heater and the fuel filter to get anything else that makes it that far. I am sure some really small junk gets past it and makes its way through the injectors but you get the same from the fuel tank at the gas station. Just think of all the gunk that gets knocked into the tank when the trucker refills it. Basically it boils down to does the end justify the means. Less fuel being bought to drive, better lubing of the fuel system, equal to better MPG at under 10% mix, and it saves me from going to the auto parts store out wiegh the chance of some injector wear.
I timed my injector pump the other day and I didnt see anything reflecting light like metal flakes inside the injector pump floating in the fuel. I also didnt see any scuffing or shiny wear marks on the delivery valve assembly. I have been running WO for about 10k miles in the truck with anything between 2 and 15% ratio. 2 gallons per tank seems best for less smell and good power. Guess it is working so far.

2 Stroke

I initially added 16 oz of Wallyworlds 2 stroke oil with TCW3. At every refill (usually 10 to 12 gallons), I add 8 oz.
No more injector rattle on accelleration. The quietest I've ever heard.

What about using Marvel Mystery oil instead of 2 stroke would'nt this be better? since that is what it designed for.

At $15.00+ a gallon for TC W3 and $30.00 plus for the synthetic, i can't see alot of savings using either one.

Ditto here, I paid $2.13 for a qt. of Pennziol TCW-3 outboard oil. Which I know is not the cheapest. And for the record 2-stroke oil is made to burn in an internal combustion engine so no worries there.

Average price I see for Synthetic TCW-3, in my travels around the western US is $19.00 a Gal.... other than water front marinas.
I don't see any advantage to using synthetic 2-cycle oil in a CTD ..... other than the fact that most are smokeless. Are the non synthetics incorporating the smokeless technology yet? It's a fairly expensive additive system, so probably not.

Just regular 2 stroke oil, TCW-3, no/low ash.

2 Stroke Oil

I ran Marvel Mystery Oil with Power Service for 10K. Wallyworld's 2 stroke marine makes the engine quieter so far (500mi.). Wallyworld's $6.28 per gallon. MMO $10.47.

TCW-3 is, I believe, low ash. It is the formulation called for in Liquid Cooled 2-Cycle engines... as opposed to Air cooled 2-cycle engines (weed wackers, go carts, etc.) which almost always call for TC 2-stroke oil.

TCW-3 oil is more expensive to make because it is designed to burn cleanly at the lower cyl. head temps encountered in Liq. Cooled 2-stroke engines. It is the prefered 2-stroke oil for CTD's because of this fact.

Thumbs up

Ok guys! I got 366 miles on 18 gallons, which works out to be about 20.3 per gallon. I usually see 17-18 combined mileage, with a best of 19. So this works out to be 2-3 mile per gallon increase! So I'm pretty impressed at this point. In a few weeks I'm going to take a road trip and I'll let you all know the results of that.

I hate eating crow.

It looks like I will be trying this CRAZY oil additive concept to see if I can get some of those benefits too...
