Don't know about a crappy 6.2. I had a 1983 sold it with 168000 and still was a excellent work truck also still have a 1985. 3/4 ton spent it's life working hard and plowing west michigan snow it only has 257000 on it. It's not a dodge by anymeans but they have both been good reliably trucks. Type chevy 6.5 in a search box you will find plenty. Oh i guess on my 85 I did have to replace 1 transfercase

both are indirect injection. the 6.2 (no turbo) can't get out of it's own way but it is very reliable my friend has 200,000 on his and hasn't touched it. my other friend has a 99 6.5 (tubo charged) it has power but is very unreliabe he's been through 3 injector pumps and 2 computer modules( that for some reason chevy located over the exhaust manifold). the 6.5 only has 70,000 miles on it and is currently not running, he bought a 2000 psd and is now going to get rid of the psd and fix his 6.5 because he said it is the most comfortable truck he's ever had.

My dad's old 6.5L chevy was a great truck. We replaced one injection pump on it in 75K miles. I power braked the snot out of that truck and we towed 10-15k lbs and the tranny never gave us a single problem. It sounded and smoked pretty good with a gutted cat and flowmaster duals (dad wouldn't let me straight pipe it).

Try the diesel place.com

They have a 6.5 section and some certified techs on the site. Great site like this one. Hope that helps you out.

I had a 6.5 and it was very strong. Never let me down, but I had a trouble year the 94 model. Injection pump city is all I can say. But when it was 195,000 I could not complain at all. Especially since I only got 86,000 out of mu cummins doing the same things. But that is my experience, and only my experience.

The GM is definitely underpowered compared to the cummins (and others)....

Most will say the 6.5 is the ugly girl at the dance.

Quite reliable if you do your maint.

HSD wears out the injector pumps - must add 1 qt of used (or new) oil to prevent the pump from failing in 16k miles. my dad has 280k miles on his `87 "G" 6.2L with the original injector pump (he's been adding oil since `92). My `84 CUCV (K5 Blazer) 6.2L "G" motor has ~220k miles when I sold it - had been adding oil for the 4 yrs I had it, was getting 21-23mpg, no smoke, great engine!!! The "G" motors are more powerful than the "J" motors. My dads Suburban is slow from the start but will cruise 80mph all day at 18mpg (8k lb truck shaped like an Acme brick). CUCV would cruise 80+mph all day at 21-23 mpg, was much quicker but only weighed 4k lbs...

Great reliable, light, cheap to maintain engine... Low compression too is easier on the engine (18:1).

For $2250 you can put the complete Banks turbo kit on and have ~210hp ~380ft lbs rear wheel - not too bad...

My dad has a 84 1/2 ton that he bought new. He pulls a fair amount but never at any speed or distance. It has around 240,000 miles now and has only had an injection pump put on once at around 95,000 or so and then a tranie around 140,000. He thought the pump was going out of it recently because it was ideling real rough and smoking bad so he took it to some place that specializes in pumps and it was just the timeing or something like that. I would love to get one for a daily driver. Does anyone know what the last year for the 6.2 was in the 1/2 tons? I am thinking around 94 or so but am not sure.
