Diesel does give off vapors too, just not as quickly as gasoline. Diesel has a much lower vapor pressure than does gasoline. The vapor pressure of a liquid is an indication of a liquids evaporation rate. The higher the vapor pressure, the faster a liquid will evaporate.

Diesel fuel - .040 mmHg @ 68º F
Gasoline - 275 - 475 mmHh @ 68º F (the number varies among the various grades of fuel)
