2009.... what will the 2500/3500 Cummins be configured as?
Hi all. I am new here but I am hoping next year to get a Ram 3500 so I can get a 5th wheel and live aboard, as opposed to renting an apartment.
I have read rumors (and yes I know that they are rumors) that the 2009 Ram 1500 will receive a V8 Cummins option. Great for the 1500 guys.
But what about those that want a 2500/3500 series with the 6.7 straight 6? I guess the only real reason I am seriously considering the Dodge 3500 is solely because they offer the Straight 6 Cummins. I dont want, nor do I ever intend to get a V8 Diesel.
I know that the 6.7 was recently introduced a few years ago. Would it even be feasible to consider them making a move to a V8 for the 2009 MY? I hope not.
Anyone that might know, please let post because Im really getting worried I wont get the chance to own a new 6.7 Cummins!
Hopefully a future 6.7 CTD owner,
Ed

From what Ive heard, the V8 will go in the half ton and the V6 in a Dakota/Durango sized vehicle, as I beleive both have very short time left...and the V6 may be available in the half ton. But it would make absolutely no sense to not have the V8 in the half ton...
I keep hearing, I guess more reading on forums, that the V6 is going into the 1500. I can only see it if it was an option. The V8 is also going to HAVE to be an option. The V6 Duramax is supposed to make in excess of 300 ponies... the V6 Cummins doesn't but the V8 Cummins can.... unless Dodge is willing to play the horsepower game in the 1500 Diesel segment, might as well not even do it.
The 5.6L V8 is definitely going in the 1500, but it's still unclear whether the V6 will be offered as an option.
And we'll probably have to wait until 2010 before the new body style is available as an HD, but it'll still use the 6.7L for sure.
All I know is that the guys who have seen the new 1500 in person are VERY impressed. It even rides on a solid rear axle that uses a 4 link setup with coil springs... supposedly it gives a lot better ride with the same payload capacity and no more axle hop. Plus the exterior styling is supposed to be really nice and the interior a complete change from our lower end stuff right now.
