06/07 5.9L transmissions

Gotta question guys and gals, I've been holding off waiting for the 6.7L with a 6spd auto but the local dealers here still have several 06/07 5.9's on the lot and are offering some really good rebates on them.
So is the 4spd Auto worth it, I've heard it has problems? What kind of fuel mileage compared to the 6spd manual? I have a manual trans now and don't really want another one because of my 20 minutes of city driving everyday.

I don't tow/haul much, mostly I just want a BFT(Big F**in Truck) cause I like them. My brother has an 06 5.9L 6spd manual and gets about 20-21MPG. I also know I can add a chip to the 5.9 and adjust power/performance based on my needs at the moment. Any suggestions? Should I jump on a 5.9 or wait for the 6.7 and a 6spd Auto?

If you want the 6spd auto get it. If you want to start BOMBing a truck imidiately get a 5.9. It will be awhile before there is many aftermarket options for the 6.7.

the switch to all the low emission hardware in 07 diesels has been compared to all the emission hardware that killed the muscle care in the early 70s. what would you rather have a 1970 Chevelle or a 1974 Chevelle. kinda the same parallel here. buy two 06's one to drive and one to store for 20 years from now

What problems? The 48RE is probably the most bullet proof automatic transmission put in a diesel. Might not be the best, but probably the most trouble free.

48re.

I think the 48re's are much improved over the 47re's but they are still slushboxes especially after having a DTT in my '99. When I test drove an '06 auto I knew $4,000 in upgrades were ahead. I went with the manual instead. The auto should deliver better mileage than the new g-56 due to gearing. If you can handle the mush buy it. Should serve you well.
