Why is Diesel so much more than Gas now?

Diesel has been more than gasoline for a long time. But, it seems like a month ago diesel prices jumped way up whereas gas prices did not. Diesel now is $1 more? Why the big jump all of a sudden? Do tehy expect deisel & gas to get closer price wise in the summer?

There's all kinds of excuses. I wouldn't expect prices to drop a whole lot during the summer.

I have read more demand for diesel in other countries [ more diesel powered passenger cars/trucks ] .
One of my pet theories is , most of the diesel in US is commercial used , no choice , most passenger trucks / cars = gas , have more choice , this is similar to less competition - harder to sell at higher price if choice / competition .
And many more reasons .

Stop with your silly questions and start replacing your incandescent bulbs with fluorescents. I'm starting to think you're a carbon terrorist. Who cares how much it is ? As long as the Alaskan Caribou are happy, that's all that matters. </sarc>

Reason I've heard for diesel costing more which makes sense is that US refineries are geared for producing gasoline more than diesel since historically gas has been more in demand. With more diesels on the road nowdays demand has out stripped supply, to make ends meet a large portion of US diesel has to be imported = more $$$

I assure you that the equipment building Chinese roads and infrastructure is NOT powered by gasoline!

Ditto for India...

To keep people creating threads about the price of fuel, when it will go up, when it will go down, how much it costs in each town, how we can lower prices, when to strike, where to buy from, how to get better economy.....

Maybe I am the only one, but my eyes go cross at the number of "fuel price" related threads.

Another part that adds to the price spread is the wide use of Ethanol, at least in the Midwest. That takes demand pressure away from gas.

Because of all the new diesel cars that will be out this fall, the big oil companys have to make up for 30% mpgs savings of diesel some how

Why do you bother reading "fuel price" related threads then? Just ignore them if they cause you to go cross eyed.

maybe because we cant seem to get away from them threads ? enough of them out there with the cost being discussed, why not just add to them, thread after thread of the same stuff. to be on topic tho, one reason would be the refineries having to run 2 batches now instead of just one, home heating oil is still low sd not till 2010 is home heating oil going ulsd. adding red dye is a heckuva lot easier and cheaper than removing sulfur.

Something else to consider boys, as of this year, most of our Diesel is of sufficient quality to be sold overseas, thus there is a greater demand for export.

If you think about it, the EPA did us all a big favor............NOT.

There's plenty of other catagories you can click on other than this one!!!
Remember, YOU are controlling what you read....not the people starting these threads......
Besides, isn't that the point of forums?
