Angry what's up with diesel fuel prices??

Historically diesel fuel was the cheapest thing on the menu.
Now, after I get my first diesel truck; all the sudden, it's by far the most expensive. Is it not more expensive to refine gasoline?? Especially premium? Are they out to get us or what?????? Geesh!! OK, I'll shutup now.
P.S.
$3.42 here at Portland, Or.

$3.32 a gallon in the Florida Keys. It's my theory that the oil companies would rather increase the price of diesel to well above their "normal" profit margin since diesel trucks haul most of our consumer goods and they can pass that increased fuel cost onto said consumers. They then keep consumer gas fuel artificially lower so the consumers won't yell to loud or long at the politicians. The result is, the oil co's cash flow stays the same. Then there is the EPA that mandated the ULSD that supposidly costs much more to manufacture...Along with the more expensive CJ-4 oil that increases wear on '07 mfg engines...Then there is the devaluation of the greenback. Who knows most all of the politicians are in their pocket.
Vote for Ron Paul...Shamless plug.

Regards, Richard

JMO but Ive always heard that diesel is higher when it starts getting colder, because there is more of a demand for diesel because most engines used for heat and to run big machiney run off of primarily diesel. who knows its all to high if you ask me

even with the seemingly high price of diesel, you get almost twice the economy as a gas conterpart. even if diesel was 60 cents more per gallon it would still be more economical to run diesel. actually the break even point is 70 cents a gallon. this does not take into consideration the initial higher purchase cost or higher cost of oil changes. either way i won't be going back to gas if i have the choice. price of diesel last time i filled up was 3.35...

diesel goes up in the winter because it is almost the same as heating oil so they make less diesel and more heating oil...

oil companies have known for a couple of years that diesel passenger cars and light trucks are right around the corner. they are getting the general public desensitized to the diesel fuel price (increase)being close, etc to that of gasoline.

1)Diesel is a by-product of gasoline, therefore it probably should be less expensive. Which leads me to....

2)The theory about increasing the price of diesel to keep gasoline prices lower smells bad enough to be true.

Drum roll please.........

3)Oil companies in general, on average, are currently making PROFITS (that is money made above expenses, research, payroll, exploration, etc) of just over $700.00 per second, every second of every day 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Exxon made over $1025.00 per second in Q1 at at 8 billion+, the 5th highest quarterly profit for any public company ever. They hold the highest ever quarterly profit record of 10.71 billion for Q4 of 2005.

Here is what it looks like....$10,710,000,000.00

So, what does it all mean??? Can anyone come up with a good reason for gasoline or diesel to cost over 3 bucks a gallon??? What are we doing wrong?

I'm all about business making a profit, I wouldn't even think about gov controls or involvement being the answer, but I hope something starts making sense soon, or God help us!

and a bit of ...

I agree with rjm...benn coming now for some time.
To add to what Dale posted, don't forget that those profits that the Oil Companies realize are less than what the Feds and States make in the taxs at the pump, so I don't see the Govmnt doing a thing to help. The higher they can let the price go and pretend they're outraged and helpless to do anything about it, the mpore they make ont also!!!

Look at the bright side, Nothin' like $5.00/gallon to keep the riff-raff off the road!

PS China is sucking up all the gas, thats why prices are so high. Enjoy your current lifestyle because sooner or later we're in for some BIG changes gentlemen...
