what are the GOOD additives to be running with ULSD??

ok so now that i bought a diesel, im not risking losing my pump to ulsd, so im currently running Power Service White bottle (non 911 formula) and it says that its a cetane booster and adds lubricity for ulsd and also has anti gel.

what else is out there and whats the best bang for the buck..... ive heard good things about SUMMIT (purple bottles?)but have yet to buy some and was wondering what you guys run/recommend......

i also like the idea of keeping a spare bottle of anti gel/ anti water additive to dump in the tank in emergency cases, what do you guys recommend for this???

thanks a million, you guys have been great with responses to my newb posts so far..... my hats' off to you guys

Add 8 oz of MMO (Marvel Mystery Oil) along with your PS and you should be all set. FYI I use this mix in every tank of fuel.

i picked up some MMO tonight when i went to autozone to get oil and more P/S......

saw some bad summit <edit> go down today in my buddies truck (old plow rig 6.2 N/T) he had the fuel gel while driving..... went to go pour the rest of his small summit bottle into the tank to "ungel" the fuel...... the summit was gelled up in his bottle. it was only 15 deg. today at the coldest. he called the shop who he buys it from and the shop owner is trying to track down what happened......

Stanadyne Performance Formula (one of the better fuel additives on the market for lubricity and anti-gell) will also gell in the bottle at low temps.
When mixed to the proper ratio in the fuel tank, it protects fuel against gelling to a lower temp than almost any other product. (around -60*f)

BTW MMO isn't an anti-gell.

I add a quart of 2-stroke oil! Every 3-4 tanks I add Stanadyne with the 2-stroke.

I've had Penray, Diesel Power, & Stanadyne anti-gel all slush up in the bottle. I usually keep a bottle of additive in the pickup that is mixed about 50/50 with #1.
Power Service & Howes dilute with distillates and don't slush until really cold.
Your 97 has a p-pump and not as lubricity dependant as the VP & common rail pumps.
Cetane boost & anti-gel is probably your best friends which you find in Power Service. It is one of the most widely available additives, too.

As long as it's TCW-3, no ash, non synthetic, it doesn't matter.

I've never any test results from the amount and type of 2 cycle oil required to raise lubricity.
Can somone point me to the data?

Just recently added 2 stroke oil (snowmobile -40 rated TC3-w) to my fuel for the first time. 20oz on a fill. noticed that immediately everything quieted down at idle. WOT no noticable change.

I think it said "low ash" not no ash, is that a problem?

The very best additive if it's available to you is biodiesel.
Just a 1% concentration increases #2 diesel lubricity by 65%

There's a station selling B20 about 15 minutes from my house.
If they'd stop playing roller coaster with their prices, I'd use it more often.
I've seen price swings of 40 cents or more from one week to the next while regular diesel prices in the area stayed the same.

I noticed an increase in accelleration during normal throttling right after a recent fillup of B20. I also noticed that the engine runs much smoother and quieter with B20.
On another note you had written in another thread that there is no reason to run a higher concentration of bio than B20. Would it be benificial to run straight bio from time to time to completely clean out the fuel system?
