Angry What the (BLANK) is going on here?

Just saw a piece on CNN about a couple in Calif. that own a bunch of dump trucks. They've been going over the border and filling them up with diesel at $2.00 a gallon BUT the U.S. Border Patrol limits them to 110 gallons per day! Let's see now ..... here in the US we're paying $4 plus/gal but 200 yards over the border in a 'have-not' country it's $2/gal AND OUR gov limits how much you can 'import'..... HELLO ??????? !!!!!!!

We are being had my friends and none of our 'elected representatives' give a rap ...... 'they' and us (we have met the enemy and he is us) are KILLING US!

Time for some accountability in D.C. and every federal, state and county office ...... hopefully one of the presidential candidates will take a stand on this horse puckey ..... SOON!!!!

Had they been selling their fuel for 3.00-4.00 per gal they might have made a profit.
That is if someone could afford to buy it.

while i know the numbers, i don't know the reasoning of the mexican gov't. do they just see it as a subsidy (like fuel welfare), so the people can afford fuel, or is there something else in play here?

Yep, I saw the same clip. Pretty frustrating knowing the govn't seems to turn their back on this and states were just in a "slowdown" period.

I live in Edmonton Alberta, the oil comes out of the ground near here and piped to the refineries in and around the city. I just paid $1.23 a liter, $4.92 US gall, or $5.58 IMP gall.

is anyone advocating the U.S. gov't running the biggest oil company in the country, and using billions of tax $$$ to make up the difference between market price and a selling price of around $2/gallon, like in mexico? i believe that's called socialism.

Interesting that the trucking company is just driving over the border for fuel.
My understanding is that within 50 miles of the border Pemex stations are allowed to sell at US prices. Beyond the 50 mile buffer zone the price is regulated and the same at every station.

$4.29 a gallon here today. I see where Senator Durbin has requested an inquiry as to why oil companies are making record profits recently and the price of oil has only slightly increased. Greed, fraud, price-fixng etc. that explains it. All under the reign of an oil man president paying back all the favors that got him where he is. Hopefully this will cost his party the presidency and then maybe we can get this country back on track.

Yep, Mexico treated Pemex like a cash cow to support social programs and now they are paying the price. Pemex refineries are in disarray and having to import finished goods from the US because they don't have the refining capacity. So now the crude oil revenue has to support both fuel subsidies and the social programs.

Let's see from the $60.00 per barrel range in April 07 to 119.00 per barrel in April of 08 is quite an increase. $20.00 of that over the past 30 days. That's 20% in one month. I call that a massive increase in the price of crude!!

Ah I knew this would become political. And completely false as well!!
No president has the control needed to get the oil cartels, OPEC Venezuela etc.. to increase production thus decreasing the price.
Are the oil companies making a killing? Yes they are!
Are they totally responsible for our current situation? Absolutely not!!
We can blame the Saudi, Venezuela and those politicians who've voted against increased domestic drilling, voted against Nuclear power and voted against building new refineries as well.
It's just easier to blame the oil companies along with the leader of the opposing political party!

Just go watch the movie There will be blood. It will give you an idea of what kind of people started the oil business, and are still controlling the oil business.

Senator Durbin and his ilk are to blame for the high prices not oil companies. They allowed all that easy money and inflation to happen with this housing bubble mess. Instead of pestering oil companies how about Senator Durbin explain why Congress stands in the way of expanding production and refining capabilities? Or how about he explain the 4 trillion $$$ of federal tax revenue collected last year as not being "obscene", "greed", "fraud" etc instead of begrudging oil companies a few hundred billion...
