Low sulfur diesel has been required onroad since 1994
And Exxon offering B50, what a joke. I highly doubt blends over 20% will ever be offered.

I talked to a guy at BP who wrote an article on this subject, I posted it on here someplace before. I asked him about the lubricity of the ultra low sulpher diesel and he said the lubricants were added to the blend before they left to go to the supplier and there is a government standard as to what levels of lubricity it has to be at. He said it would not affect our vp's because the fuel has to meet the lubrication specs for the new, higher tolerance diesels in 07' and beyond. I was satisfied with his explanation, and he called me back after I emailed BP. So, needless to say I buy BP fuel as my primary fuel. Just a satisfied customer I suppose

We are hauling ultra low sulpher diesel now off our pipeline. It has an additive tank where the lube is being added as I load. All the diesel at our tank farm comes down the same pipe & goes into the same tanks no matter who the shippper is. Whether it's BP, Chevron, Shell, Tosco, Tesoro, etc.

News flash!.........Diesel fuel is oil!!!! This "oil" is what lubes your vp-44. The injector pump most likely failed because of a failed or failing lift pump. S15 is not going to toast your fuel system or your motor. The lubricity ASTM standard is the same for the new S15 as it was for the old SXX or SXXX.
Even some of the shipping industry titans have run the new fuel in their older, pollution spewing container vessels on trans-Atlantic crossings without incident. It's way to early to jump to conclusions here, give it some time!
Cheers

Wouldn't make much sense and could lead to a national disaster if the new fuel left a large percentage of the trucking fleet broke down at the side of the road.
People are worrying needlessly.

People are worrying because he said that she said that he said that ULSD will destroy older pumps.
THINK ABOUT IT!!! Which pump would require greater lubricity...the 18000PSI VP44, or the 26000PSI CP3?? Common sense would tell us that higher pressures means closer tolerances, which would REQUIRE better lubricity!
ULSD is NOT going to "ruin" your VP44's. Besides, the older fuel didn't seem to keep them from failing either, and it had more of that magical sulfur in it
Relax,
Chris

LSD has been the only onroad fuel since 1994.
Most of the ULSD I've seen is 10¢/ga more expensive.
