When gasoline goes up, people complain, news reporters interview Joe/Jane Citizen whining while filling up that Hummer.......price comes down.
When diesel fuel goes up........average Joe/Jane couldn't care less because it doesn't directly affect THEM.....Trucking companies add fuel surcharges to offset the increase.....you and I keep paying higher fuel costs......Price stays up.
Remember when diesel was 20 - 30 cents CHEAPER than gasoline after the winter heating season?

A little of both.
Diesel used to be considered junk fuel and therefore was sold for little of nothing.
(I can remember $0.12 per gallon)
Now that it's much more widely used in passenger vehicles as well as trains freight trucks and buses AND the oil companies have already tested the waters by keeping the price higher with no real ill affect towards sales I can't see them reducing their profits just for us diesel pushers.
Oh and what Shovelhead said!

Now, what do you think changed between then (20-30 cents CHEAPER) and now? Historically, hasn't diesel typically been cheaper and more economical?
Exactly!...
What is the new paradigm?
