Opinions on AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate
Opinions on AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate
Went to the gun show today, and believe it it or not, but there was an AMSOIL booth set up there. The guy tried to sell me on their oil, which I think is a decent oil, but I prefer Schaeffer's sythentic 9000 oil. Anyway, I did buy a bottle of their diesel concentrate. Anyone have any thoughts about this stuff? I normally run 4 or 5 tanks with 2-stroke oil, then a tank or 2 with nothing to lean out a build up of the oil, and then Redline fuel supplement. Then back to the 2-stroke at about 200-1 ratio. Only bought 1 bottle to try it. Any thoughts, good or bad?
Did you get the Diesel Concentrate Plus Cold Flow Improver or the Diesel Fuel Additive Concentrate?
You don't really need the one with cold flow improver in CC.
I have just started using the concentrate. I figured it cost me 5 cents per gallon and the 2 cycle oil is a little more expensive.
The main reason I use it is the lubricity improver. It also helps clean the fuel system and separate water from the fuel without using alcohol.

I use it all the time. Partly for the lubricity, but mostly to keep the injectors clean.
I used to have a real smoke issue at low rpm pulling the 5th wheel. (Yeah, I know that some guys love the smoke, but a completely stock truck shouldn't have been smoking like that).
After several thousand miles, the smoke issue was greatly reduced.
I just run it now all the time so that they stay clean. No point in letting it become an issue again.
I also started using the cetane boost. It runs much nicer now.... not CR quiet, but much better than before.

I sure wish I could find a place in Corpus Christi that had bio-fuel, but there are none that I know of. The stuff I got is the concentrate without the cold flow improver. I'm more interested in finding out about it as a total system cleaner. Thanks dott for the link. That is the stuff I have. I checked out the MSDS on it, and it does have solvents in it, but I don't plan to use it at every fill up. I still plan to use 2-stroke at about 200-1 for about every 4-5 tanks, and then lean out any extra oil in the tank by putting nothing in it for 1 or 2 fillups, and then trying out half a bottle of this stuff. Then go through that cycle again and use the second half. I don't want to start an additive war, and I do like the Redline stuff I use and it's easy for me to find and purchase. The AMSOIL additive is not that easy for me to find, but if it works well, I'll buy it in bulk and stock up on it. That's what I do with my engine oil (Schaeffers), and with oil and fuel filters (Genos). Thanks again for any imput you guys have. Oh yeah, almost forgot, the guy charged me $7 for a 16 oz. bottle. Bottle says it will treat 80 gallons. That's about 3 fill ups for me. That price seem good?
When I bought my truck I had a bad incedent with the stuff. I don't know where the PO had been getting fuel for the 6 months that he owned it but first thing I did when I left the lot was to stop at a gas station and double dose the tank and fill it up. about 200 miles later my fuel filter plugged up solid. It took two more filters before it started to run clean.
I guess it's not really a bad thing but it is something to remember because I had to crawl off the NJ turnpike and find a filter. That was 9 yrs ago and I still use the concentrate and even the cold flow improver during the winter. I don't think I need the cold flow but I think it helps the startup on those cold (for VA) mornings.
