I put some drums behind the barn a few years ago and it looks like they got some pin holes in the tops. I assume they would have some water in them, I also have a couple drums of waste motor oil.


How do I get rid of this stuff?


I want to clean the place up because my family may list it for sale in the next couple years.

If I had a water seperator and filtration system I would mix it up a little and run it in my diesel tractors but I'm not set up to do that.

 

If you want to use it yourself and depending on the amount of water, it might be worth getting something like a racor FH1000 with a water-block element and filter it a couple times.

Ive also had luck with heating and pulling a vacuum to remove water. Youd need an old air compressor tank or something to do that, not a 55gal barrel.

Racor also makes a funnel with a water block element in it, strips out water. Dont know how fast it would swell up and become useless, though.

 

or if you were in Montana, wait about two weeks and the water will freeze to the bottom!! I guess you could haul it to me and I could wait until -20f

 

Find someone that recycles used oil, let them come and get it.

 

They charge per gallon of water or something outragous.

Plus it is under 500 gallons so they charge for a trip.



I'm thinking more like a free dumpsite that is eco friendly, ie I won't get in trouble.

i wouldnt think it would be to hard to get it usable. alll the water and trash will be at the bottom just make a simple filtration system and put it in new drums and add some diesel conditioner

 

I don't know about Texas, but in Florida, you can take used oil back to a parts house and dump it in their tank. Here they limit you to about 5 gallons per trip you might check their. As for the fuel I would tilt the drums a little (a brick under one side) let it settle for a few days then use a 3/8" copper pipe they will reach the bottom of a drum on the low part and siphon out what's there into a clear container (I use a 2 L soda pop bottle ) and look until you get good fuel i.e. water will separate. When you get to the good fuel put it in your tractors. You're relatively simple process though it will take you a little time. Just my thoughts.
