Angry Fuel prices....RIDICULOUS!

So I just topped off the tank...for $3.20 a GALLON ...I remember back when I got my license about 10 years ago when a man could get a gallon of #2 for $0.79 a gallon back where I come from...this is getting horrendous...it's not like diesel (other than this new ULSD crap that they are enforcing in CA) takes that much refining as compared to gas, heck it doesn't even pay off to pay that extra few thousand to purchase a diesel to save on mileage over the gassers anymore...only advantage is the pulling power and durability...

I'm beginning to think we are subsidizing the Gasoline prices. I thought gas was a result of refining diesel--or something like that. Which pretty much means the supply side of diesel is no problem. Likely, allot more supply of diesel than gas!! So, the other side of the equation is "demand". And my guess is the truckers are responsible for that. We are just the ones screwed in the middle. (No offense to truckers--I like my goods.. ) I just can't imagine that pick-up owners account for much of the demand....Lord forbid that a soccar mom or delivery people have to pay too much for gas. But screw the diesel pick-up people. They don't account for a large segment of the voting public....or at least fail to sway "public opinions" or newspapers. We just aren't newsworthy enough.

ULSD is nationwide, as of mid-october. Unfortunately, can't blame CA for this one...EPA strikes again!

Now, without the EPA we wouldn't be able to see down the block in the big cities! However, I think they do need a control system. Some of their implementations are ridiculous!

Back to your regulalry scheduled programming.....

At the Flyn'J where I fuel up, the diesel started to slowly climb and then I noticed the new ULSD stickers showed up last week. Over night the price DROPPED by 13 cents a gallon!! Don't know why but I'm not complaining about $2.39 a gallon.

Hopefully refiners are just recouping costs due to retooling for ULSD.
I'm not smart enough to do the math but it must be getting close to being cheaper to drive a gasser with or without our increased mpg.
At least we still have the longevity of our vehicles to appreciate.

I don't know what the hecks going on anymore.

Now I read that California is sueing the auto manufacturers for pollution. so are those highly enlightened individuals who brought about the suit, suing themselves for driving said polluting automobiles?
sorry for the political twist, stupidity kills me.

I paid $3.03/gallon yesterday.. and thats the cheapest Ive ever been able to find it lately around here. My trucks tank hasn't seen the full mark in probably about 6 months. I just can't afford to fill it all the way up.

Sounds like Derek has it the worst down in San Diego. Scott, $3.03 is not too horrible, I am pretty much in the middle of you guys and I am looking at prices closer to what Derek paid. My last fill up was $3.05/gal a week ago, and around I have seen it up to $3.19 at the closest station to my house... as well

It's been right around $2.79 in the SF Bay Area. I have seen it as high as $3.09. It actually dropped $.06 a gallon since yesterday. It seems to go up and down on a daily basis.

Thumbs down

I vote with 97 dually, according to a friend of mine that works at a tank farm that is axactly what.s going on. I don't know how he knows this,or if he is right or not.But it just seems strange, that gas has droped like it has, while for the most part the price of diesel hs stayed the same. Two weeks ago gas went up 20 cents around here, and diesel jumped 10 cents,up to 2.79. now gas has went back down to 2.16 but suprise, suprise, diesel hasn't moved. According to what I have been able to find on the net, ulsd cost between 7,and 10 cents more a gallon to make,so how can they use that to justify the differance between gas and diesel?

Here in Nebraska it's 2.70 right now about 10 to 20 c above premium. Diesel peaks pretty high here in the late summer months because of the demand created by center pivots but normally drops below the price of regular gasoline by fall...Who knows
