distilled water= better mpg???

okay so a welder from my work told me about a method used in WW2 to keep the fighter jets from running out of fuel so quickly, i guess his brother is using this method on his toyota and claims 30% better mileage, so can it work on diesels??? this is how it works, a container filled with distilled water has a plastic object with wire wrapped all the way around it in the the water with the wire being connected to a ground in the vehicle, and then a wire from the positive on the battery also in the water, but not touching the wire coil, their is a lid on the container and a small vent hole, and a vacumm line that runs to the intake of the motor, what happens is the coil some how turns the water in to (brown gas) which is then sucked into the intake and turn into fuel. has anyone heard of this and can it be done to diesels??? thanks

Well it sounds like something to do with electrolysis. Maybe using hydrogen as fuel?

okay so i did a search on the net and it is really popular for diesels and gassers, im gonna try it on my truck, if it works i'll do a whole write up wi th pics, it may take about a month to get around to making it and relay the results but i will definetly let yall know how it goes.

Yeah, a friend of mine has messed around with this a bunch. Electrolysis (the method you described) is supposed to seperate the oxygen and hydrogen in the water. Then the hydrogen is sucked in and burnt as fuel. He tried it with his dakota, but came up with inconclusive results. I guess it the idea of creating hydrogen as fuel would work in a diesel too, and if you could make enough hydrogen it may actually make a difference. With fuel prices these days I'm willing to give about anything a try!!!

It doesnt work

I saw this examined on a episode of mythbusters.

the problem is that to get enough volume of gas you need a lot more electricity than is feasible on a vehicle.

Won't work on our diesel trucks, no vaccum, the intake system is pressured by the turbo charger.

yup already thought about that, what i would do is hook a vacumm line to the intake(suction side) of the intake so it sucked in the hydrogen, hey i figure it basically wont cost me anything to make so im gonna give it a try and see what happens, diesel is $4.20+ around here

Total waste of time and money.

To create enough hydrogen to make any effect, the electricity to perform the electrolysis would use more energy than you would gain.

Exactly or everyone would have one of these rigs in their backyard to run a generator to power the house.

Its almost $5.90 here.

as far as what the mythbusters, you might even be able to see exactly what they did by accessing video's from their site... they went to fairly great lengths to try make it work.

Adding mileage by making Hydrogen has been Searched, researched and re-researched on this site. See thread HERE

I stopped reading it months ago but I don't think any positive results were ever achieved! With todays fuel prices...may be time to re-read this monster thread.

since it would be a gas put it in front of the turbo inlet and choke off the air box some to get a slight vacume going there. Then you could adjust your IP to match the less airflow so it doesnt waste fuel. Sure it'll have less power but this is about economy right?
