blue diesel fuel?

i live in miami and people are going crazy because of the hurricane and all that so everybody went to fuel up and alot of gas stations have run out of fuel. However today when i was driving about i saw a local station being refueled by a tanker, so i pulled in and decided to fill her up. Anyway, after squeezing those extra gallons in i was able to see the diesel in the filler neck of my truck and it was a bluish color like gasoline, i am new with diesel but isnt diesel a yellow-orange/amber color? i know i used the right pump. is it possible the fuel tanker refilled the station with the wrong fuel? the truck ran fine on the way home but i am still worried. any advice? thanx in advance.

ps. i feel like such a newbie

Does it smell like gas ? I have seen diesel in a variety of colors so I wouldn't panic on that alone but diesel and gas reguardless of color have distinctively different smells/

I bet you ten dollars to a donut that with evry station running out of diesel they ordered some JP-8 jet fuel with additives. Was this station close to an airport or maybe a Military base? Only fuel I ever saw that was blue/purplish is color. Even if it was, you'll be fine if all it was was just a tankful.

Diesel was dyed blue for a short time in the early '90s but was discontinued because it was confused with aviation gasoline, which has been blue for ages.

Yeah - my brother and I used to work at the airport, so we'd borrow 100LL (130 octane) and run it through his '71 Pontiac 400 4-sp... a couple times down the main runway in the middle of the night

Dang, the things kids will do!

A year of that abuse melted #8 piston

Lately, as ULSD has been coming out, I have noticed the the fuel is a little bluish looking where I usually by it. Definately not blue, but it has a slight bluish tint to it.

Talking

it didnt have the total diesel or gasoline smell, i dont know what it was.

theres no military base nearby but there is an airport around 15miles from the station i filled up at.

shes still running fine just a tad sluggish on acceleration. as long as my baby doesnt break i'm ok with it, i'm sure better fuel will be available when its time to fuel up again..

and the fuel definitely had a blue tint to it and now that i look back on that day i remember noticing the tanker was unmarked, like with out any company markings..oh well

THANX FOR THE SUPPORT!!!!

Yep, your running JP-8 jet fuel there buddy. I'm sure thay put a couple gallons of additive in it before dumping it though.

Funny thing is, someone is making a killer profit off that stuff somewhere. Most likely the station, or supplier. IN times of natural disaster (a law past last year after Katrina) local, state, and federal EPA and tax laws on fuel can be bypassed to allow a steady stream of fuel. So, either the station supplier sold the station cheaper untaxed JP-8 for the price of diesel or the station knew what he was getting and is pocketing the difference.

is there anything bad with that jet fuel? does it have a higher chance of predetonation? are there any additives that i can dump in that will also improve performance?

thanx

Last several fillups at Walmart I noticed the fuel has a blue/green tint. My guess it's ULSD. Friends reported the same at other stations in the Houston area.
