So, I'm doing a little reading about this. I'll go out of my way a little bit for some things. Might even pay a little extra money if there's enough benifit. What I read doesn't impress me that much.

Biodiesel seems to cost about 30-40% more than #2. But that's hard for me to determine, because it's hard to come by around here. Altfuelprices.com lists the price in my town as $3 a gallon. Plain diesel is about $2.10-2.20.

Biodiesel carries fewer BTU's. That means it takes more fuel to make the same energy, which usually (like alcohol and E85) means worse fuel mileage. But that's a small amount, and with only a 20% mix, I'm not sure it's noticable.

My owners manual clearly states not to use more than a 5% mix.

Decreased emissions is always a good thing.

Virgin soy oil is only going to rise in price as the time goes by. Increased demand always means increased price.

There can be trouble using Bio in the winter in some climates.

So, if you can't make it yourself, what's the point?

I get it where I live for the same price. Run B-20 90-95% of time. I use it because NOTHING increases lubricity better than biodiesel, and for same price, why not use it? If it gets in single digits or teens I just put some diesel power in it, (not often here where I am). I agree, if it it costs way more, I would not bother, but for same price, I like it for how clean it keeps your entire fuel system. JMO

That makes sense. I did read that is a good cleaner. If the truck has been run on regular diesel and then you switch over to bio, you have to change the fuel filter more often until it's all cleaned out.

Yeah Bob. That is what I read too. I wonder why it so much more expensive where you are?
