I know what my Tac vs. Speedo should look like and you can bet big that I'd notice a TC problem quick!

There aren't any major hills that I travel. The gentle ones get me about the same mileage as flat road. For those gentle hills 1800-1850 RPM give me the best result without loosing SO much momentum at the bottom.

On pure flat road 1700 RPM is best.

The other thing that may be common knowledge is not to use curise control when towing. Man that kills my milage. Until they get eyes on em so they can see the hill ahead of time I do the throttle. Empty it's ok, loaded no.

I guess someone needs to start a thread about getting 18+ mpg because that is really what most people get on most of these trucks. And not everyone is that lucky, Several of my 8 have averaged around 18 on the hwy but not this one. Likes that 14-16mpg to much. Not bad pulling a 4k+ trailer and getting 14mpg. I've got a buddy that claims 21 and is always blowing smoke and letting it idle a lot.... I haven't had a chance to check and see what it's really getting. I would hate to have to fill his truck up while were traveling together and then refill it to see what it's really getting. Oh he did tell me the other day his OH said 24mpg. He's got a auto that's slipping also but does have bigger injectors.....

My truck got 713 miles one time, I wasn't driving it. The fuel gauge hasn't worked since I bought it in May, but I've always went with a figure of 525 miles between fillups to be safe. Well, I had left to drive the semi, and everyone in the family was driving the truck over the course of the week. Someone forgot to pass my 525 mile figure along, and it ran completely out at 713 on the trip odometer. Funny thing is I was heading down the SAME highway, and see my truck on the side of the road. Luckily, there was a two gallon container in the bed, with exactly 2 gallons, for this exact situation. I dumped it in, got it primed and running, and followed them 3 miles to the fueling station. I proceded to put 33.441 gallons in, it was right to the top. 716 miles on 35.441 gallons=20.2 mpg total. And lately, my father has been driving it as I've been on the road alot, and he's been getting 23 consistently. He's been sticking with my 525 mile figure, and hasn't had to put 22.5 gallons in it yet, three tanks in a row. Tires are 265's, gears are 3.55's, and a 5 speed. Speedo and odo are checked against GPS and measured mile on the highway, respectively.

I, myself, have seen a best of 19, and generally get about 17.5. I like the power, and tend to use it often.

Well lately odo+MTE have equalled over 700 most of the time.

I could really use the fuel vent mod, because it does take 10-12 minutes to get fuel up the pipe.

But average in my sig is all hand calced over nearly 101K miles.

Well, I've never HAD the low fuel light come on. But yeah, I'm one of the (normally) over 20 crowd too. Speed is the biggest killer of mileage, followed by crosswinds, followed by load. I normally average 22-23mpg US in the summer. It drops about 2mpg in the winter due to winterized fuel. Never been over 62mph......ever (speed limit here). Best ever was 37mpg US....I kid you not. 450 miles in freezing rain, too slippery to go more than 30-35mph. Just sat on about 35 at a steady throttle. Worst ever was 11mpg US. Pulling 22' stock trailer with a VERY heavy load of shop equipment in a 50mph headwind.

The fuel mileage you listed had to be from the over head computer that had a fuel box hooked on it and not hand calculated fuel mileage. BTW, I've never heard of an 07 QC LB 4x4 getting 37 mpg let alone any CTD engine ever getting such fantastic fuel mileage, so I have to say I don't believe your stock engine could get 37 MPG.

Nope.....hand calculated...........and I'm not kidding............450 miles at 35mph.............was running around 1000rpm. It's possible.....but who in their right mind would ever run that slow for that far? I did cuz I had no choice. It was either drive very slowly or stop and idle............and at 1000rpm, may as well be idling. Like I said, at 62mph, I normally do from 22-24mpg US in summer.

I'd say it's entirely possible if he was going that slow. I know the overhead isn't accurate, but it's accurate enough to notice trends and if I get my auto in lock-up in 3rd gear and slow down to about 40 the mpg skyrockets.

When I've gotten caught in slow/go traffic (no stopping) making from 10 -30 MPH I gain on the overhead so I sort of believe him.

Also I can sure testify to what headwind can do to you!

Hello,

Just did a quick check too see if it was possible. 40 to 44 mph about 1350 rpm's for 10 minutes and it's doable. I went from a low of 28 to a high of 44 mpg depending on the slope. My average was 34 mpg. Just goes to show what many have said. Our driving is the biggest influence by a long shot. No magic box or magnet ect. could get me 30 mpg. It's all me baby!
