I have noticed that others running an exhaust brake are getting the low mileage that I am. I usually get 14 or 15 MPG.

Is there anyone out there running an exhaust brake and getting 18 or better mileage? Who knows, maybe I found my gremlin...... My truck has a Jacobs exhaust brake on it.

Speed is a huge killer of milage. I have burned 215 litres more driving my pete at 117 km/h rather then 100 km/h from Saskatoon to Calgary. both trips were pulling an empty train on highway 9 on the way home from 2 different trips.

The wind was getting with it out there today! I had a fairly young avg. mpg on the overhead and it got drug down to about 21 flat into a semi headwind after getting as high as 26 going the other way.

21 on my overhead means no better than mid 18 when I fill up.

Usually speed is a killer. I say usually because it doesn't seem to matter to this one. I can hold the speed down to about 65 mph on the freeway and it can get me 14 or sometimes 15 mpg. This last tank we ran 80 on the freeway and real hard around town the whole time: I just filled up yesterday and it got 14.66 mpg. Guess I can at least stop driving around like a 90 year old; it doesn't seem to affect the mileage a bit.....
Is that an injector problem that causes poor fuel economy when running easy; but, yet similar economy when running pretty hard? I used to think I had a weak turbo or a boost leak. Wouldn't that only cause the mileage to get worse the harder you push it?

I am seeking out a good tech locally. If anyone knows of one........

i just put edge jammer nozzles on my truck a week ago and i was running at 17mpg now i am at 22mpg and i drive 75mph on the freeway and do a lot of driving in downtown oakland.

Are you figures on paper? If they are and you drive in the city (A bit hard), I should be able to get more mileage than that......

I got to 705.1 on the ODO and filled with 36.687 (+32oz 2 stroke).

The last 50ish miles were against a rousing headwind and MTE started at 65 and was at 0 when I hit the shop.

620-30 miles on average on 28ish gallons of fuel. Didn't start doing it till after about 115k and tst on 8/3. 3.73 gears. would get about 18 before 115k even with the tst, i also changed my lift pump at 105k. that is 70ish mph and some stop and go traffic.

hey ive got a 2001 6speed quadcab sport 47k miles i bought this truck about 4-5 months ago when my gas light comes on i can put like 33 gallons in and i can go 300 miles untill the light comes on agian and this is 75% highway and 25% in town nothing over 75 mph i put a new set of 315s on and i havent noticed any difference in the mpg i have a edge juice and a2 monitor i added and i calibrated my tires and when my dash says 60mph my a2 monitor says 67mph so the tires make a 7mph difference which not sure what that means but i always keep the chip off and just use the monitor for the gauges and gps so my trucks stock except for the tires and about a 3 inch lift or whatever it takes to get 315s on a dodge 2500 cause they rubb when i turn sharp but my point is why is my mpg so bad please can anyone help and what i can do to fix this i know nothing about diesels also out of the 4-5 months ive used red dye diesel about 15 times and could this hurt it hasnt seem to in the mpg but i dont know any help would be great

Check for boost leaks, fuel leaks, clogged filters, etc...Put your chip on the lowest setting (the added timing should help your fuel economy). Drive 65 or less on the highway, keep it under 2k during city driving, etc... 315 tires are gonna hurt your mileage, not help. The overhead is NEVER accurate. If calculating mileage by hand you need to multiply the MPG by 1.07, otherwise the number will be off.

hey thanks man i calculated it by when i pull up and put say 31 gallons in before i take off i reset my mileage counter then when my gas light comes on agian i check to see how many miles ive gone always 300 to 310 i dont have the overhead display in mine and i always leave my juice chip off i just use the a2 monitor for gps and gauges no power i leave it on stock setting i know alot off people say tires but when i had 265s it done the same thing my mileage has never changed since i bought it and my dodge dealership wont look at it because they say my check engine light isnt on the only thing i could think off is when im on the highway in 6th gear going 75 mph i fill like i need a 7th gear like the rpms are up to high and i need overdrive or something

What size tires did you have from the factory? 245's or 265's? If you go 300 miles, and use thirty gallons of fuel, thats roughly 10 MPG if and ONLY if your speedometer is calibrated to your tire size. Since you're about 7% off, you're actually getting 10.7 MPG. If you calculated 15 MPG, you're actually getting 16.1 MPG. This is all assuming that there IS a 7% discrepancy between your speedometer and your actual speed, which is why I asked what size tires your truck came with. If you went up in tire size, but your calculated mileage stayed the same, you're actually getting better mileage.

Like I said in my previous post, turn your juice on one of the lower levels but drive the same as you do now. You're most likely going to see an increase in your mileage.

Also, when was the last time you changed your fuel filter?

Try driving 55-60, if you are not in a hurry. Clean your MAP, IAT. Are your tires aired up near max? Air Filter clean?
I guess you have 4.11 gears?

I'm envying all you guys my 07 mega 4x4 5.9 auto gets 11 to 12mpg. My last 03 got 13mpg. I have owned probably 20 diesels in the last 10 yrs. ( in the company) and don't think any truck i have had has got better than 13mpg. (some are f550's) The only exception is a two wheel drive 01 dodge haven't really ever checked it but think it may get around 16mpg.
