DTR's WARM UP ROOM 2/6 through 2/12

Come on in! Warm up and dry out a bit!

Kinda figured that we might need a bigger coffee pot to warm up all the plow rig operators and the like. I made a new coffee pot out of an old 55 gal drum that had some straight 30W in it. I figured it could be reused just like the 30W went into the coffee.

The donuts got left outside last week so I brought them back in and they seem to be behaving for now so I just left them to there own devices. That may change after they actually thaw out a bit though.......

That is good news. I dont know why they have to make it so difficult. Well actually, I do. Its so the govt can get $$$ off people who are grieving.

Nice day in the midwestern arctic today. -15C, clear and sunny as heck. Got lots done almost, changed out the flywheel housing on a 3116 CAT, getting it ready to go into a 5 ton, need to install the rear main seal and associated parts, and we're off to the races.

Otherwise, little cooler than the past few days, all week was above 0, up to +8 a couple times. Oh well, save the outside work for a day that's cool enough the snow doesn't stick.

Got the 93 GM running almost properly. Did a glow plug change last weekend, an oil change to 0-40 this weekend, and for a high miler, it runs alright. Last of the all mechanical 6.5 turbo engines. The way they should have stayed.

Otherwise, things progress in normal form.

Have a good week people.

Realistically, there was only 1 bank account that was going to have to go through Probate. Probably only had about 2k in it too. That was the frustrating part. Without a will someone had to be appointed the executor to close it out. His insurance policies however, they were payable to a trust in his name and it could not be located. ANYWHERE. I looked all over the place for one. No copy in his apartment, none on file with Harris County where he lived, not in NJ where he lived prior to TX, nothing on file with his Church. Nothing on file with the court up here either. I even spent a day going line by line through the local yellow pages Attorney section and calling all of them to see if they had a record of my Father from around the time of his divorce. Nada. Turns out I was right on with the dates I was asking them to look at for him and I even called the right office too but it was a long time ago and many records weren't retained that long.

Either way the whole process will move along pretty quickly now.

Hopefully so. We are just now in the process of trying to help out my Father in-law. Mother in-law handled all their finances and a lot of it was in her head. Since she is now gone, it appears they were kind of running on empty on their retirement. They had transfered most of their money into the market back when it was only going up. They didnt count on it being inflated and going back down. We are currently paying the bills until the dust settles. Its made me start to revamp my will and stuff to make it easier on the wife if I croak.

Good luck with the finances. That part is always fun even when the paperwork and such is in order and available. When it's in someones head.......... real fun.

Thankfully in my case, all my father's bills were paid by credit card every month and the bill was paid 3 days prior to his passing. The CC company was actually the most helpful in getting all his other stuff taken care of. They gave me a list of creditors and bills (along with account #s and contact #s)that came out every month and went back through the last few weeks to see what was gonna come through that hadn't been paid already. Made that part MUUUCH easier. Never expected that from a CC co.

Definitely. The wife and I have been working on something for ourselves that got a much higher priority after this. After I got home I called my Mom and thanked her PROFUSELY for having all her stuff in order.(Will and Trust) Not only in order but I have a copy of it, as do my brother and sister. I'm also listed on her safe deposit box so I can access the original and I know where to find the certified copy retained by the Church attorney who drafted the whole works for her.

Greetings eh.
After reading the above about Wills and probate, I will add that 2 yrs after my step dad passed, a couple of his family members surfaced and decided to work my mom a bit. Everything was all done and settled withing a couple of months of his passing but these two folks felt it was wise to work my mom about money. She played it cool while she called her lawyer and when they actually showed up for coffee, she was with her lawyer. Case closed. These were the 'black sheep' of his family and we were warned about them.

For some reason when I added some of the [censored] to the 30W it makes a crackling sound and started to boil up a bit. Seems to taste ok but when I tried to dip a donut into the Phoo00, something reached out of the it and the donut was gone....for about 10-12 seconds. Then it flew out and stuck to the ceiling...10 times its original size, glowing and gurgling. Kinda looks like an oversized full SpeedoFiverBobbyDepends. However, it appears to have a tag on on. Its hard to make out what it says but the letters STAN are on it.
Wonder what that means?

Enjoy the day eh.

Its my Friday.

It means that whatever you do, don't try to mess with me - or else you will end up looking like one of SpeedoFiverBobbyDepends.

Now that is out of the way, good Sunday morning to all of you. Still nice days down here, but we have entered our windy month and boy, has it been windy the last two days. Of course with zero rain the ground is very dry, so the wind is full of dust.

Going back to a part of last weeks conversation re drills and drilling. Most folks I have seen drilling do not understand the correlation between hardness of the metal being drilled and drill speed. When drilling hard materials such as titanium or stainless, keep you drill speed very low. Also use a drill lubricant. If the chips are turning blue of brown, slow down the speed and use a proper drill lubricant. Slowing down the drilling speed will also prolong tool life.

Thanks, but will admit that I am not brave (or foolish) enough to try the new coffee, or to go near the donuts.

Going to church in a few hours and then tonight visiting some American friends who for some silly reason want to watch some big football game and party.

Well ain't this a cheery topic. If you want to make it easy on your families when you die, don't own anything. Sign it over to them NOW. There, problem solved. You're welcome.

It's Sunday, February 6th.

On this day in 1778 - The United States gained official recognition from France as the two nations signed the Treaty of Amity and Commerce and the Treaty of Alliance in Paris.

1788 - Massachusetts became the sixth state to ratify the U.S. Constitution.

1815 - The state of New Jersey issued the first American railroad charter to John Stevens.

1900 - U.S. President McKinley appointed W.H. Taft as commissioner to report on the Philippines.

1911 - The first old-age home for pioneers opened in Prescott, AZ.

1933 - The 20th Amendment to the Constitution was declared in effect. The amendment moved the start of presidential, vice-presidential and congressional terms from March to January.

1959 - The U.S., for the first time, successfully test-fired a Titan intercontinental ballistic missile from Cape Canaveral.

1971 - NASA Astronaut Alan B. Shepard used a six-iron that he had brought inside his spacecraft and swung at three golf ***** on the surface of the moon.

1987 - President Ronald Reagan turned 76 years old this day and became the oldest U.S. President in history.

1998 - Washington National Airport was renamed for U.S. President Ronald Reagan with the signing of a bill by U.S. President Clinton.

2000 - U.S. First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton formally declared that she was a candidate for a U.S. Senate seat from the state of New York.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
If a flaming watermelon falls into a river and turns purple, how many gerbils does it take to unscrew a giraffe?

55 gallon drum of coffee is ok, just hard to get it hot.

I do not know anything about metal work. Well, my dad did teach me a good lesson long ago. He cut a piece of threaded metal stock with an acc torch, then told me to pick up the piece that had just dropped to the ground. I think his words of wisdom were, "That'll teach ya." Moral: if it's glowing, don't touch it. I think I was eight or nine.

You have problems.

I vaguely remember him as the president, but the more I read about him, the more I like him. I was in 2nd grade when the first Bush was voted in. I remember we voted for who we wanted to be president... I think the only guy that didn't vote fore him was Danny Lee Jankey from Delaware, and he got beat up at recess. (he moved to Okeechobee that year... what a rude awakening he was in for.)

Mornin. Still kinda stuffy. Getting ready for my trip to SC, gotta go get my buddy from the brig. We're gonna be driving a U-haul to Texas, then I'm flying back. I feel an adventure coming on.

Hope everyone has a nice day

I feel that the two of you will be sharing a cell in the not so distant future.
