"Curb" weight?

Went to DMV to register the truck today and completely forgot to find out an estimated weight of the unloaded rig! Since the girl was not amused with my pondering, I blurted out 13K#! Then I got to wondering if that would be enough?

My old F250 7.3L NA RC/LB 4x4 tipped the scales at just over 6200# full of fuel and my towed load is 6500#... was licensed at 13K#.

The old title said 5350# (sounded about right in comparison to the Ferd minus the front axle & TC), so I called a bud with a 2nd Gen X-cab LB dually... his weighs about 7100# Seems I've read they're heavier (more frame beef & D80 rear)?

So, anyone with a '93 D350 Club got a guesstimate on how bad I missed?

Probably about 7K would be my guess but I'm sure somebody here knows for sure.

Closest truck stop will have scales...it cost, and help me out here someone, $15-$20 bucks. I haven't paid for a scale weighing since '94.

Thanks for the suggestion guys... not that I hadn't thought of actually weighing the truck... just that nearest "truck stop" is about 1.5hours away! However, the local dump (since scales are used in connection w/ $$, they are certified) is approximately 1.5 MILES away and should do it for free...

6200 lbs for mine. The auto adds around 50 lbs according to the dealer sales book.

GVW is 10,100 lbs. That's what it should be tagged for. At 13k you are paying too much for registration.

no he is right on...

if your weights 6200lbs and he said he tows "my towed load is 6500#... "

then 13K total is correct.. in NC they require you to have the correct plate on a truck for total weight of truck plus load pulling..

Ah. PA is separate. As long as your axle weights don't exceed your registered weight you are OK.

My mom has the exact same truck as CaverDave, and it weighs right at 6000#.

I have mine licensed for 24K. In MO, they also take into account the weight of your trailer and cargo. My flatbed and monster gooseneck hitch (2 1/2" plates of steel- ~3x4ft) make mine about 7200# empty, and add 5K for a trailer, then 10-12bales of hay, and I am closing in on the limit of my plates as it is. But, the hay is for farm use, and may be exempt if it ever got that far, and I figure the extra $50 a year is cheap insurance against a ticket from the DOT. Plus, it's to have only one plate (anything 18K+ has just one plate, all others have 2 plates)

I'm sure glad in Florida ours are licensed for factory dry weight which is 5050 lbs for my D-250. Factory dry weight is a little low. My plates are heavy class due to being over 5000 lbs but they are only $50.00 a year.

I like Colorado better still- as long as you have the ponies to pull it and the brakes to stop it, they dont care how much you weigh.
