I have a 1985 dodge 350 auto 4x4 crew cab and after looking forever got a hold of a 1990 2wd. What should I do for a transmission? Is it possible to take output shaft from the 1985 and put it into the 1990 along withe 4wd tail housing. I have read some conflicting info.

 

As far as I know, both should have a 727, so yes, you should be able to mix and match. I don't think though you just change the shaft without ripping it all apart.

I personally would hold out for a 47RH and get LU and OD, more money but much nicer to drive.
