Just wondering what guys are using for a fan on a 12 valve conversion. Were putting a 97 12 valve in a farm truck and were trying to figure out what kind of fan to use. I was thnking electric fans would be the answer but any opions would help.

The stock mechanical Cummins fan should clear.

We were told that it would too but would have to move the tranny back 3 inches and then modify more stuff. Not really looking at going that route hence why i was asking about the electric. This is just what we were told from the place we got the motor kit from.

My engine hangs on the same mounting points that the original I-H 6.9 was bolted to, with a set of Randy's engine-mounts, of course.

No way are you gonna get around moving the transmission cross-member backwards, regardless of what you do.

If there ain't room for the mechanical fan, there for darn-sure ain't gonna be room for electrics.

If you are good with a torch, it takes about five minutes to blow out the rivets holding the transmission cross-member.

I cut mine out with a nine-inch Milwaukee side-grinder and big punch.

You MUST move that cross-member aft one bolt-hole; in other words, put the front crossmember hole with the rear hole in the frame.

Anyone selling "kits" that claims you can get away without moving back the transmission intends you to use electric pusher-fans which, if small enough to fit between the grille and condensor, are gonna be way too small to keep things cool.

Ya ill have to go look. I know its not a big deal but then we have to have the drive shafts done too and this is a big expense. i have seen dual fan set ups that pull more than enough air that will fit and it will be cheaper than doing the tranny and drive shaft move.

The problem is that, if he does not locate that engine aft, the engine accessories are gonna be right against the radiator, with no room for mechanical or electric fans.

The electric fans require more room than the mechanicals.

I located my engine/transmission aft one bolt-hole of the transmission cross-member and even located thus, the mechanical fan kisses the radiator and there is no room for any decent electric fan.

Cutting drive-shafts is just a part of engine swapping that cannot be avoided.

Anyone decent with a welder and grinder can lengthen or shorten a driveshaft; it isn't some dark science.

what fan to use on cummins conversion.

i would go with the mechanical fan already on the motor electric fans are an absolute headache and you will allmost always have a problem overheating because they just simply can not push enough air. i moved my trans back 3 inches to put my common rail in and also did a mechanical fan convesion and used a 7.3 powerstroke fan. it really wasnt bad it was 70$ to get the rear drive shaft cut and 20 $ to modify the trans lines, ford already has pre drilled holes for the cross member to move back

On my 2000 Excursion I moved the trans back about 4" and used the stock V10 radiator with a flexlite flex fan and adaptor. Fan is real close to the radiator but works really well, no shroud and stays cool when pullig trailer.
