I have a 2007 F-250 and am not happy with Ford for taking a pretty good truck and wrapping it around the POS known as the 6.0L Powerstroke, so I will be dropping in a Cummins. I live in CA so I have to abide by the biannual inspections for emissions. I do know that it has to be an engine out of a "same year or newer" truck with a signed certificate from an inspection referee...that being said, I know that 2007 was split between the 5.9 CR (cat, no EGR) and the 6.7 (with EGR, DPF and cat). Does anyone have any information about this? Do I get to choose which engine I go with since they are both 2007 or will I have to go with a 6.7 due to the fact that my truck came with an EGR and catalytic converter?

Is it possible to discuss the conversion with the inspection referee before you start? Perhaps you could negotiate the conversion with the ref so there is no worries...
Just my thought.......

I would clear anything with the referee before I spent any money.
That being said, to me at least it would be logical that if your Ford was built prior to 1/1/2007, then you should be safe with a 5.9, after 1/1/2007, the 6.7.
On edit, pretty sure the 5.9 had both a cat and an EGR in Cali trim, just no DPF....
