I would love to help you out.... but all my pulling tricks are with a tractor. My only advice would be to get out of the throttle if your truck starts bouncing, you will be saving your driveshaft.
I'm an automatic, but the guys I've pulled against all seem to use 4th low. That's for those above say 550 hp. Less hp would probably be better in lower gear.
Keep rpm up and slip the clutch for first 50 feet,or so, if looking for max distance.
'Kyncl' is right on about wheel hop!
Signature does not say but if 2wd...weight down your rear end!
You also don't list a location, but there is big difference between soft southern tracks and hard clay tracks usually found more to the north. If the second.... may want to do a lower gear run or two to see how your CTD handles it. (much harder on drivetrain).
I'm sure others with more pulling experience will have more (better) advise.
Good Luck!

pull in 4th low gear like said earlier max out the rear tire pressure worn tires are a good thing in pulling i usually aired my front tires to inbetween 20-25psi dpending how tight the track is. rev it up as high as you can, feather the clutch for about 10ft then dump the clutch and hammer down. you want as much weight hanging off the front bumper as possible. On the rear end you want traction bars to prevent axle wrap and a broken driveshaft and want little to no travel on the rear
Gave it a go
well i gave er a shot. i pulled in 3rd low and my rear tires were at about 45psi because my air compresser is shot and would not fill the one up enough so i dropped the other to match. i aired the fronts down to 30psi
are the tires i have better then new ones? because 3 have about 6/32 of tread and the one has about 3or4/32 of tread.
it had rained all day and the track was clay and all i did was spin right out of the hole and never really got moving. i went 224ft in the 7500lb class which was good enough for first. i also pulled in the 8000lb class but didnt add any weight( cuz i didnt have any) and only went 199.6ft
i have vid i'll post so u guys can see what i was doin and tell me what im doin wrong

worn tires are better, aggressive tires will grab more which equals broken parts. It will always feel like your just spinning the tires and not getting any traction thats just the way wet clay is going to feel. Replace the rear bump stops with some square tubing, most places call for atleast 1 inch of travel in the street classes. . A weight bracket is a must also and most rules are making driveshaft hoops and u-joint sheilds mandatory. a few other things to look into to help you out would be ARB air lockers front and rear and Look into buying or making up some traction bars they will save your drivetrain
if your gonna pull with worn tires dont bother your not going to win much, get some good all terrains just dont go bigger than 33's and block the rear end just dont block it unless you have traction bars or you will break the t- case.
the rear end needs to be held in place. I run 33x12.5 cooper st tires they have a good grip but still an at tire, some like BFs also. good to see you have a long box truck you can be very competetive. and get the hitch as close as possible.
