I too was dissapointed in the behavior of many. You dont have to smoke out the intersection and run 90 everywhere you go. A puff every now and then is ok just not at every stop light. I seen several get pulled over as they should of been. Its to bad that people cant grow up.

I have seen people actually dumb enough to post videos of themselves here bragging about damaging someones property in this manner. The simple fact is that HP and Stupidity do not mix well especially when alcohol is added to the equation.

I took my wife & kids to see the pull. We could only see the top of the trucks and the smoke. The place is way too small to host a event this size. Lots of drunk kids causing problems. We will NEVER go to another one.

I like a cold beer as much as the next guy...........but driving trucks and drinking beer do not go together, period.

They should ban any alcohol at these events, imo.........except maybe for spectators and only what is sold in the concessions. If you just have to go get a drink and throw a wild party.........do it elsewhere. Not at a major event like this. Now any other major event sponsor will probably think twice now about hosting another event thanks to these few bozos. Definately a black eye on our "sport", that will be long remembered.

This is why you'll almost never see me at an event, unless it's one local sponsored by NCDTR 18. The stupidity of some people is ridiculous. To blame the sponsors of the event is also ridiculous. The idiots did it to themselves.

It was not just drunks, but people who are following their mentors and role models by driving through town smoking the streets out. Some of the biggest names in this business promote smoke and compete with the nastiest and smokiest trucks built. What do you expect the younger crowd to do? They emulate what they are shown.

Let me guess, you want the younger crowd to not blow smoke on people, but it is ok for the big dogs to cover the entire race track with it? Some of the drag trucks smoke so bad by the time they are half track you can no longer see them!!!!!!!

Lead by example. With freedom comes responsibility. Develope low smoke parts and products. Promote it.

Ever wonder why F1 rarely builds 12V injectors and the 24's are being slowly phased out? Because the demographics are going down the drain with the smoke problem from the younger gens. Heavy feet are making a mockery of being reponsible. Monkey see, monkey do. T-Shirts with smoke rolling out, promotion of events with "smoke" or "blackout" in the title, etc. That culture is crap for the future and will be the number 1 killer of this sport and hobby. Do you really think we can ever justify our "right" to smoke out entire intersections and roadways. Keeping this up will only hand the bunny huggers a victory.

Sure you guys are ticked off that the race track was closed and you drive hundreds, perhaps thousands of miles to be told to go away. I understand, but the largest elephant in the room is what happened in town when trucks smoked out entire roadways. Thats the number 1 issue.

Put people in charge and as role models with some authenticity as such. You dont need tons of rules and regs, just good examples to follow. Having a leadership that does not talk about "party" or how they have a "cooler" or "cart" full of booze would be a good start.

Actually, my friend's 4wd got stuck in the swamp twice on friday. No one shunned him spinning tires to get out because he was trying to do the right thing and not tear stuff up; but in the process he got stuck.

Bars were closed hours before the event ended, however the venue does have the right to escort ANYONE off the premisis for any reason (including intoxication, vulgarities, conduct, and the like). We do it all the time at bars I work at in Baltimore. Maybe TS would be interested me bringing down a crew and cleaning up the crowd so people can enjoy themselves. Drunk people are fine with me but drunk people with a chip on their shoulder or complete disregard for the people around them (especially little ones) gotta go. Alot of venues are afraid to kick people out but the only people that really get mad about it are the drunk people that get kicked out, and if they dont come back, you will have a better crowd the next time. I still dont see a bad side. Nothing against the security crew that was there, they were fairly quick to arrive at the scene of an argument but if they were proactive they would not have to be reactive.

I agree with what Don has to say, the smoke everywhere is annoying. But 12 valves do not have to smoke just because you put in a bigger injector (but i can see where youre coming from). I built my 12v to make power and not smoke, the DDP4'S are very streetable with 181DV's and I can build over 60lbs of boost with NO SMOKE. Twins were the best answer for me: cheap, no lag, and moves alot of air. Can't say that I agree with the partying though. I like to party, but im not ignorant to others. The two things are very relatable, you can promote power without promoting smoke and you can promote partying without promoting people being morons. Fuel and alcohol (if you are of age) are great but only in moderation.

My rant is over.

First of all, I wish the best for Dennis & Sheila in recovering from TS '08 - I'm sure they lost more than anyone else.

Secondly, the idiots who caused the drags to be cancelled cost a lot of folks a bunch of money and hurt the entire diesel community.
The teams who traveled to Beech Bend to compete wasted fuel, food & accomodation money in addition to lost shop time - that definitely puts a dent in the bottom line.
We spent the week before TS getting the bugs worked out of the LazarSmith Special so it could make it's first full pass... dragged 3 common rails and the GN 1500 miles & 24 hours of driving over 2 nights for nothing. Cost a pile of $$ and missed 3 days at the shop.

Couldn't sell a single part, since customers are hard to find at an event that's been cancelled.

On a brighter note, PrimeMedia was able to get us into the pits at the Diesel Power Challenge drags (lots of fun to watch & meet a bunch of great folks).
I want to publicy thank David Kennedy for giving me permission to make exhibition runs in the LazarSmith Special in between the rails' passes (unfortunately, Dallas Jones shut the track down early Monday).

Lastly, after meeting Dennis Perry Monday & discussing TS - I have to say he is a class act and we will support both he & Sheila (along with the entire TS crew) in any future events they organize... and completely understand if they never bother to try again!

I think Dennis and Sheila did the very best they could considering the circumstances. The show was ruined by the weather and the thoughtless actions of some real bone heads.

You learn the kind of character people are made out of when despite the fact that everything is stacked against them, they push forward in a selfless nature to try and salvage as much as they can for the fans.

My hat is off to T&S and Schieds Crew for trying to make something out of nothing in the face of severe adversity, Kudos Folks

This sport of our's is at a crossroads reached by all other motorsports venues in the past. I do believe it will continue and last into the future, albeit in a possibly different form. Think of drag racing before NHRA or stock cars before NASCAR, and offroad Jeeping before the "Tread Lightly" program. When we evolve, sure to follow will be fewer participants, but the one's who leave are the very one's we need to get rid of to further the sport and only quality will remain.

On this very same weekend I was at a drag race event which has become one of the biggest spectacles in recent memory.......The "Pinks All Out" event in Memphis, TN saw close to 500 entries with over 10,000 in attentance without a single incedent. Why, because those there have been through what we are going thru rite now (many years ago of course) and know full well of the consequences and therefore actually police themselves and each other, cause a great thing can easily be taken away..........Why?????? Because what we do in this sport is not a right, but a privilege afforded to us by those who organise these events.

I agree with those before, and this "image overhaul" we so desperately need, has to come from the top down!!!!!! Have you picked up and read a diesel mag lately??? And as stated before, the leaders in the industry do in fact have to take up the mantle and be just that, and condemn and vilify those who do such things and not promote such recklessness!!!!!!

when i first heard ppl were smokin intersections i thought hey thats funny. but then i read it was every intersection then i thought thats not so cool. then they tore up land and ruined everything for everyone. very not cool. i did not make this event and iam very sorry it happend. i also agree with over charging for drinks. that way if it happens there is more of their money already there. i mean i can understand if no one is around and you rip on it @ one intersection thats ok. i do that every once and awhile. other than that its LEAD FOOT CONTROL.
and for the end of my rant thank you for having such a wonderfull site for us to come and chat.
