Quick question, Traction bars.

My Uncle can get me 2 types of tubing to make my traction bars. My choices are 2" pipe with 1/4" wall thickness or 2" solid bar. How would I make the solid work?

I would think tube would be stronger.

Tube would be stronger and much lighter.

For the solid bar you would have to drill and tap to put heim joints in or weld on bushings. Same as pipe or tube.

Well, I just figured that I'd weld a piece of tubing over the solid piece about 6" long on each end to accept the bushings & heim joints.

For a compression load a solid pipe will be much weaker, stick with the .250" wall, as long as its DOM and not welded. If its welded pipe don't even bother, you'll split it after too long. Solid is going to weigh a ton, and it will flex more than a good set of DOM bars.

Thanks, I told him that, but he was arguing with me that the solid will be stronger. I'm gonna get the 2" tubing. He can get me whatever I need & best of all, it is free!!!
