pulling hitches
can anyone post a pic or link to the hitch receiver they use when hooking to the sled, ive heard that you need a large hook, some say you need a large ring/shackle in the hitch
can anyone clear this up for me?

Although not sled material
It is too low, this setup is stronger than the bolts on any bumper,
Ive never hooked to a sled before, but i have pulled out people, and yanked some stumps out with this setup, its 22 inches off the ground, i think u should have it at 26 inches, FYI in this setup, my receiver was a 4 inch drop backwards, so u would need an 8 inch drop IF you have a full replacement rear bumper with a 10 inch drop to work off of...
Rick
i have the factory hitch...ill put my hitch in it both drop and rising and see what it measures to make sure i can be at the correct height, then ill pick up a 3-4" shackle to put in it before i go to my first pull in a few weeks
Guys those thrown together hitches will last several pulls maybe more.
But if your going to run crazy power or if you have a rough pull those type of hitches (like hitch with clevis through it) have a great chance of coming apart and will bend very easily (seen it many times).
Here is what I use for pulling:
It works very well (I am not saying its the best but is pretty darn good!)

The shaft is solid 2" bar stock (not hollow tube).
If anyone wants to know where to get the loop and channel(or needs a hitch made) let me know.
The inside diameter of the loop is 3" and will fit any hook from any sanctioned/pro type sled.

im already gonna be over $2k in the hole with the clutch and traction bars, i cant really afford a $200 hitch. i just wanna know if the drop hitch and shackle will work?
and whats the height restriction, cant be any higher? or lower? than 26"...

Yeah the one in the picture is about a $200+ hitch.

heres my hitch I usually use to play around with:
I have yet to pull my truck in a competition for fear of bbq'n my tranny! God I can't wait to get the new one built!!! at anyrate, the shackle has a 1.5" pin. I built the rest myself. I originally had it in my Chevy that was sitting tall, so height wasnt any concern of mine. I may do a rebuild of the same priciple to add some height to my attachment point.
PourinDiesel... are your bolts grade 5? You may want to revise your build with bolts that are more substancial... otherwise I think that is a great setup! -What kind of receiver do you have on your truck?? Mine seems weak from the factory.

Grade 5 is a tougher bolt for "work" purposes (one that has to bend and such).
Grade 8 is superior for a "torque" application where it is stable...if the bolts gonna move or flex 5 is superior.
Hey but what do I know....
