Pull off with new ford???
Pull off with new ford???
So I was hanging with some buddies, who happen to be Ford guys, and we got into a drunk discussion of Ford vs. Dodge diesels. They both swore up and down that a stock ford will rip my bumper off. One of them works for a dealer and he said he will bring any one of them off the lot and drag me around whether it be a 7.3, 6.0, 6.4.
I did not commit to anything because all I could think about in the back of my head was my stock torque converter slipping out and then the tranny going boom. But I almost said bring it on because I thought with my mods there was no way I could loose.
What do you all think?

^^^^Exactly! Pulling contests prove nothing in the way of power. It's mostly about traction and weight. If you do it, just hold your brake until he starts burning his tires then hit the skinny pedal and you'll pull him across the country.
Well traction should be fairly equal, I have my All Season tires I would put on so we can equal that out and on blacktop, which increases chances for breakage. There is no way I would let him use a truck heavier than mine or with duals. So with the stakes somewhat even, there should be another element that prevails?
I like that little trick about the brake pedal!! But if that truck started to pull me on the brakes then I'd be finished without a fight.

Your exactly right, holding the brakes is a bad idea cause he can still drag you. If he does that then it would really make you look bad. Trick to pull-offs is to get momentum before he does, do a slight boosted launch in 4 low and feather the pedal to keep traction and he's going for a ride, unless his truck is just that much heavier which i doubt a ford is.
Don't know about the brake trick but I have heard that you'll want to have the hook up higher than his. Does this make sense? I mean have your bumper or where you tie off to higher than his. Should pull the back of your truck down and give more traction and lighten up his back end? Sounds good. Maybe flip your ball mount and tell them your worried the strap may come of or some bs.

make sure you have all the weight you can put in it,like filling up the tank w/fuel,maybe some weight in the bed, sandvags anything,I did the same thing @ work one day,a guy w/a 4x4 Ranger & a 4x4 Scout, pulled them both @ once w/a 78 dodge 3/4 ton w/a 318 put er in 4low had all the weights I could get under & behind the seats, alittle firewood in the bed pulled them both backwards @ once.

The brake thing is an old trick and works well on pavement. As well as adding as much weight as you can and having a higher hitch point. Your stock hitch point will no doubt be higher than his anyway if your truck is a 4wd.
Put some fat girls in the bed and hook up I say. Should be easy.

Or you could accept that you may not have the best truck for a pull off if he beats you. My cousin has a 2002 F250 with a 7.3 and his truck is a turd but it is very heavy and lots of traction. My 2007 2500 will roast him up a long hill with our travel trailers. But I have a feeling that he could pull me across a parking lot. Just have the pull off and if he beats you shake his hand....
The Brake trick is a myth, on pavement if he as any kind of traction he will drag you with them locked. Also duallies actually hurt you beacause they float and you loose that ground pressure for traction. Also drop some pressure out of the tires also and that will help alot. Just barely break stnad and when he says go drop the hammer, dont go easy into the throttle, those fords take a little bit to get spoole up while our inline 6's don't. Trust me you'll be dragging him down the road before he knows it.
Thanks for the good advice everyone, very helpful. Still not sure if I'm going for it or not yet but it sure is tempting. Maybe I will plan on leaving my coopers on and air em down, they do have a wider print. Not sure what those fords actually weight but I know mine is just over 7600 lbs, I'm pretty sure they don't weigh that much. I'm confident, and if I don't make it then oh well, I'll keep my head high and be the better person because they will rub it in for ever.
Get a 6 inch drop hitch and turn it upside down. When ever you do it, get a load of mulch for your wife or mom. If your mom or wife say get mulch, you have to get it so you can tell your buddies it's not your fault you have a ton of mulch in the bed.
Weight, weight, and more weight. There is a Dakota I saw at Yankee Lake Truck Night that pulled big ol' diesels all over the place. He had a LOT of weight in that thing, but the motor wasnt anything special (not a diesel lol).
