new puller

I have a 06 cummins with a g56 trans i thought about pulling next month so i went for a test drive down a dirt road just to test the 4wheel low.Did a light 3rd gear launch and the truck would go about 15 feet and lose all momentum so i stopped backed up went to 2wheel drive 3rd gear again and the truck launched great.I know i cant pull like it is or should i try 4wheel high i dont want to break stuff

When you say momentum, did you mean acceleration? In 3rd low, you speed will top out pretty quick. Thats the thing when pulling with a manual, at around the 75-100ft mark you are at the rev limiter rolling down the track like you are a hero, then the sled starts to have other ideas and throws out the boat anchor. Hi range is a bad idea. In fact if the SBC 3600 in your sig is a single disk, you may want to curb your pulling aspirations.
