More then just a Yoke at Scheids

Pulled the diff cover just to make sure there wasnt anything in there from the broken yoke, ya well found that about 2/3's of the teeth on the ring gear were laying in the bottom. Must of broke the teeth and locked and broek the yoke. What gets me is it all happened so quick, I heard a pop and imeadiatly hit the clutch, you cant even hear it on the video really and it did that much damage.

Those were 2 month old gears, Yukon thick gears.

I saw a ring gear as smooth as a baby's bottom once. Right after that I slapped my buddy along back the head and told him I build the 350 to shift BEFORE 7k rpms, not AFTER....... Just another 10 bolt main in the trash....

I am kinda worried about more Yukons, if these didnt hold it will only get worse once I start dialing in tires and get a clutch in it and get the motor tuned in right.

Wow man that is knarly, how much HP are you pushing? Maybe you could swap in a complete rear axle that is bigger out of a F450 or something...?

Were they set up right? Maybe the set that slipped past quality control? They should last longer than 2 months...

I want to say that the F-450's have a Dana 120 or something crazy like that...? If everything was setup correctly and it wasn't just a fluke then an upgrade in intern size would be the only way I would imagine...

Try an AAM 11.5" they seem to work good for us 3rd genners and are holding up pretty well (knock on wood!)

A Dana 120 would get your thrown out of a street class.

I am with Pourin on the AAM 11.5 - I switched my gear lube to Red Line and have had great success with it over the last three years.

Note - if you get one out of a totaled truck make sure the truck you are taking the rearend off of is an HO model truck...the SO models have a 10.5 rearend.

I wont argue about the AAM rear, those things are stout. Just that I already have a D80 and should not be breaking it like that. I know I have some good power but I dont have that much power.

Bean, When you put the Yukon in did you get any tire chirping while driving?
I have a buddy that put a new gear set in his 80 and it didnt quite get adjusted right. His tires were chirping real bad around turns...when he hooked to a sled the first time (after new gear set) he had some breakage that looked like yours - but not as extensive. I cant remember exactly what was out of adjustment - Ill try and find out.

Put OEM gears in it.
Yukon is basically junk.

My vote is gonna lean towards improper shimming and installation. I'm not bad mouthing you or whoever installed them, just saying that for it to start shearing teeth off like that looks like the R&P are not meshing close enough when loaded. Dana 80's have been used in trucks with more power that are pulling every weekend and they arent just wringing the teeth off the gear like that...
