M/T or A/T tires?
M/T or A/T tires?
Ok Before the pulling season comes up again I am going to be getting a new set of tires but am Kinda conflicted on what to get. As in my sig I will be running my 2005 Dodge with the edge juice and bully dog stack pulling on a 6spd with dual disc clutch more than likely will be pulling in 4th low or maybe 5th low. My bquestion is though should I get a set of All Terrain tires or the Mud terrain? I am gonna go with a 285 70 17. The thing is I all ready have a brand new Goodyear MT/R and it would be cheaper to buy 3 tires instead of 4. But I heard with the mud terrains you might end up getting to much traction and snapping front ends and rear end and which in that case it would be cheaper with the all terrain. So do you guys think I will have any problem with the mud terrains or Do you think I should go with some all terrains?
I have been having the same problem deciding so i got both .. But if i had to choose i would get a good set of BFG AT KO'S they are expensive but they are a very very good tire and are well worth the money its what most guys around MO are running ..And yes the MT will up your chances of braking stuff...The advantage of AT is you can go with a bigger set of tires than the MT will allow (mainly depends on track condition which are always changing)...Oh by the way where in MO are you from ???
I am from Wright City missouri, a little outside St. Louis. I will be pulling at Warren County fair, St. Charles, Washighton Town and country fair and maybe a few others. Yeah I think I am going to go with the mud terrain since I allready have one of them. Last year all the pulls I did the track hooked real good So wwe will see with the MT's.
Mud terrains
in sled pulls increase your wheel hop as they dig down for traction, if you have no ladder bars, or no means of supporting your suspension, ur gonna have more issues with a mud terrain than you would with an all terrain..

Yessir...
its my opinion at least..for the reason that i think it will be easier on your truck all around... im sure its your DD, and well at best it will minimize your breakin parts, and at worst, well u might lose a pull by a few feet or so....

AT will have much better chance of spinning out MT will dig and break stuff.. And you really need a set of Traction bars not just for wheel hopp but for Axle wrap as well trust me they can save you a bunch of money !!!!!!!!!!!
well I am going to go with the BF Goodwrench AT 305 70 17. I well probly not get ladder bars though seeing as I only do maybe 2-3 pulls a years. Last year I never had a problem I never hop and my truck pulled pretty well but then again I didn't have the DD and an extra 150 hp coming from the bully dog.
